can I cancel, switch to wifes name to get promo?

So rather than talk to DTV, and have them fix the issue, you are going to commit fraud.

Rationalize/justify it anyway you want, fraud is fraud.

I have "talked to them"....next time read the thread. I tried getting them to negotiate a "new deal" as to where I would commit to a new 2 year contract and they weren't real excited about. They did offer me a HR34 for like 99 bucks, 49 install and some other BS fee but that was about it. Told me to check back in June/July when some Sunday Ticket promos come out.

Point is, all I want to do is get the "new customer deal"...I think my 9 years of service I should have the right. I'm gonna call in early June, if they don't offer up Sunday Ticket for free at the minimum, I'll either commit "fraud" as some say, or I'll simply switch to Dish.

Time for DTV to step up. They say I'm a valued customer. They either want my $$, or they don't....

It has been asked if anyone can show that this is fraud and I'll asking anyone can show that it's against any written directv policy a well. If it is, do not do it as it is wrong. I think we can all agree there. I have yet to see anyone show actual backed up info though.

If not, I again see NO difference between this and canceling and swapping to dish for the new customer promo absent that information.

Sent from my iPhone using SatelliteGuys

I agree with this guy. Show me in writing, this is fraud.

Not buying it. Even the guy who worked there couldn't provide proof, just heresay.

Show me a LINK, from DTV, that says explicitly it's "fraud"...

Hate to put it to you this way but you are 1 of 20 million customers....they probably don't want or need your money, especially if they aren't going to get the full rate from you. They'll get plenty of new customers locked in for 2 years as we get closer to the NFL season that will easily offset the lost revenue from you. I know we like to think we are important to companies but with 19,999,999 others we don't really matter.

Before I worked for Directv I tried this. I canceled and the ex-wife signed up. Less then 24 hours of ordering she was contacted by the fraud department, the credit card number, phone number, and house number all matched. They pretty much said that either we prove we was divorced and I moved out, I died, or we separated and I have moved out or we pay full price for all equipment and pay an X amount (can't remember) for the installation or wait 24 months and try again. They said it was fraud, DIRECTV said this was FRAUD. I'm not saying not to try it but expect the worse. I'm sure they can give you the proper documentation you're wanting to prove its fraud if you ask them or if they catch you trying it.

First off, they wanted proof of a divorce?? That can take YEARS to finalize.

Second, using the same card wasn't the way to go. That's gonna send red flags up.

Finally, I see no wrong in cancelling, and re-subscribing under a diffrent name. I can do the same with my cell phone, at any point if I so choose.

Either way, again, show me where in writing DTV says it's "fraud".

I think it's a bunch of hogwash. Now, if I was pulling this every 2 years, yeah that we could argue. But once in almost 10 years?? I don't think so.

I'd be very careful trying to pull this off if you really want to have Directv as your provider. They've been cracking down on this and as already noted in this thread they can cancel your account for trying to pull this off. If you had to ask this question to begin with that should tell you right there it's not 'right' and if you don't think it's 'right' what do you think the company and their high priced lawyers think about the situation?

I'm just telling ya. It don't matter. The checks thy run will throw the flag up. I'm agreeing with the comment "asking isn't sufficient evidence enough to tell you it's wrong?" I personally could careless but it's people that try and pull garbage like this that makes it like it is. $99 plus $49 for an HR34 is about as good as you're going to get. New subs are paying $99 for them. You got your deal 9 years ago, go to cable or the other guys and let them deal with your "I'm going to ask a question that I'm already questioning myself and then not accept an answer from anybody". Directv throws red flags sometimes when people "move" and they're not spending any money, you think they'll just treat this as normal and not run any check? Try it, I want to know what happens. (but I have a pretty good idea already considering my position with directv)

Agreed.

Again I'll break down the communication process for a few of you.

Longstanding customer, 9 plus years, autopay so never a late/missed payment. I cancel, resign with DTV under wifes name, they still get 3500 bucks from me the next 24 months with NFL, MLB ticket, and FSP.

Or I cancel, switch to someone else and DTV loses a good customer. I realize my 1-20,000,000 standing probably means not a whole lot to them. But as a small business owner, I can tell you, GOOD customer's are hard to find...

What would DTV rather have? My wifes name and 3500 revenue, or NOTHING??

The main thing you have to worry about is the Address, getting DTV installed at an address that was just cancelled on by a person with the same last name? Thats going to bring up some issues.
The only way i have heard of this getting done, is doing it in your wives name, but she has to sling some bull about how you two just split up and you moved out. So now she is getting installed.
Simply switching the name might not be enough to convince DTV of the legitimacy of this matter.

people steal, murder and other illegal and morally suspect crap each and everyday too; doing it and getting away with crap NEVER makes it right; rationalize it in your head to make yourself feel better if you want; it still is WRONG. when it ends up being YOUR money, family, property you will change your tune. PLEASE SEND ME YOUR ADDRESS and I will show you just how quick you will change your mind..

If you or any other sub doesn't like the service, deals, or anything else, just call them and discuss YOUR situation within the rules; you don't like the outcome, pack it up and and leave. You ever steal or cheat me or my company I would send you down as hard as legally possible and plant your name and info on a blacklist.

Lost morals and common sense are 2 of the MAJOR failures currently running rampant in this country and ruining it; slowly becoming a bunch of lazy, whiny little ignorant cheats and liars that want everything handed to them for free.

You want to back SAT hacking too?

Read it while its still posted; cause it won't last long even though its the total truth! It should stay because its NOT a personal attack or warzone message; just posting some real pointed answers directly to the question asked.

So if I send you my address, you gonna promise to come over tough guy? I'd love to see that.

So let me confirm this: you are against "fraud" but all for "threatening" someone.

i'm closing this one since it's going NOWHERE and some of you have decided to make personal comments instead of posting REAL information backing up your opinions.
