I have a question that I hope somebody can help me out with. Can I use one of the Directtv small oval dishes & LNB to pickup satellite X4?? I have a 10' mesh dish that does great with C-band both digital and analog but isn't good enough to pull the Ku signal in. I have a DSR 922 and am paying for some programming on X4 that I'd like to be able to watch, I just don't want to replace my big dish to do it. I have 4 new Directtv dishes, mounts & LNB's and the coax is already out there, seems like a simple hookup to me.

What kind of mesh dish are you using? most will pull in Galaxy-16 ku since it's very strong, are you sure your ku lnb is good? it is very possible to get great c-band reception and not a hint of ku this means the dish is in need of alignment.

Same Question, AMC 2.

I have an old Directv dish and LNB that was removed when I got the high def capable dish. Can the old dish and LNB be used to receive AMC 2 FTA (which, for whatever reason--probably alignment--, I do not get with my BUD and Coolsat slaved to the 4DTV; see my earlier thread).

AMC2 is weaker in the northern states so no you would need a 36" or larger. I can get the strong stuff with a 30" but most of the stuff is weak here in MN

I am in Florida, but cant get anything.

I can't get (almost) anything on AMC 2. I did get a preseason game, but it tiled alot. And, the analog banner channel on transponder 24 is full of sparkles. I think its a problem with my system, probably alignment.

the analog feed on AMC2 is full of sparklies and snow here in MN and that is on the T90 dish which is 42x40

I tried a 76cm Winegard dish in NY and found with my old DSR905, I could get a good signal on a clear day. The quality necessary for a DC2 lock on X4 was about 25.

I switched to a 90cm dish and had a much better signal, even in heavy rain.

A 4DTV receiver needs a standard LNB with LO 10750 mHz.

Aim slowly, it takes a little time for the 4DTV receivers to find and unlock the signal.

X4 is Fine. AMC 2 questions

I get x4 fine. But, now I am curious about AMC 2 because other people have the same problem I do.

I think I will scan it regularly when the football season starts to see what happens.

As noted @ other times, I also do not get its KU band neighbor, but can scan in C band, so I think the issue is alignment.

I live in VA and have a ten foot BUD, 4DTV with a Winegard mesh dish and pick up X4 perfectly. I understand that if the mesh is over 1/4 inch then a KU LNB may not work.

not necessarily....

I know on my 6 footer some satellites have a ton of wobble so as examples on G4 the nets I can get in one spot but say ABC HD is really low. I move it west and ABC HD comes in strong but the nets are weak or non existint

Could be the dish size though :)

The nets are a Different Polarity than ABC HD...

Ice...maybe you should tweak the polarity on the nets a little...

Its not that...its due to the smaller dish.

Some H TP's on there I have to do the same thing and when I move to G3 or IA6...oh boy

that is a moving machine on those satellites to get all the channels :)

Is there a BUD in your future?

Have you considered a 10 foot dish?

The HD picture received via my 10 foot dish through the Coolsat 8000 is amazing (particularly on 1st generation backhaul signals coming right out of stadiums.).

I cant get a 10 foot dish. Where I live I can't bury a dish in the yard (Townhouse)...plus the only spot would be on the north side of the house and with a 38 elevation for true south the dish would be aimed right at the house.

so the 2 6 footers it is

Too bad on the BUD

I was wondering why you did not have a 10 foot dish. At least the Townhouse rules let you use your dishes.

If I had not recently gotten engaged and wasn't about to fix up the house, I would add a dedicated KU dish to my system and run it through the KU side of the Coolsat. It would solve my AMC 2 and 3 problem (which might also be b/c I use a high frequency splitter to split the feed out of the dish; with the caveat that I haven't used process of elimination to figure it out).

But, there will soon be a new sherrif in town!

The picture is generally better on the BUD thanDirectv for comparable programming.

If I had to rate the picture only:

1.BUD HD through the Coolsat (but, not too many channels);
2. Over the Air HD:);
3. Directv HD:);
4. BUD Digital SD;);
5. BUD Analog:rolleyes:;
6. Traxis SD through the BUD :up(with good signal);
7. DirecTV SD on an HD set (I think on a non-HD set, the Directv is better than the Traxis, probably because of the HDMI or Red, Green,blue connectors):confused:;
2,0000,0000. OTA Digital SD.:( Really bad generally.

As for sound,
1.BUD HD through the Coolsat (but, not too many channels);
2. Over the Air Digital
3. Directv;
4. BUD Digital;
5 Traxis SD through the BUD (with good signal);
6 BUD Analog;
7.OTA Digital SD.
