I am hoping that someone can tell me What satellite 101 is used for.. I might be wrong i thought it was used for the SD locals then they got rid of those. The reason i ask is because i am seeing alot of zero's on 4 transponers!! I will def post some pics later so that everyone can see as well.

In short SD nationals are on tps. 1-3, 5-11, 13-17, 19, 21-27, and 29-32 and SD spotbeam locals on tps. 4, 12, 18, 20, 26 and 28. So showing 0 or very low signal levels on the spotbeam tps. is normal as they're carrying out of market local channels not intended to your location.

101W is also used to download program guide data, receiver authorizations and control, and software updates.

Both 101 and 119W have actually carried SD locals for many years. However, with the somewhat recent retirement of the old spotbeam capable satellite from 119W (D7S). Only a token few SD locals now remain on 119W today.

All broadcast on 11 national beam tps. by the D8 satellite moved over to 119W from 101W to replace D7S which was fully shutdown and moved into a disposal orbit.

You will learn a lot from seeing and understanding the data firsthand. HERE is the source. Satellite D8 is providing 136 streams: all MPEG2/SD local channels.

At 101W, D9S and D16 combined provide 44 local beams 28 National beams. They provide a total of 521 MPEG2/SD local streams and 359 MPEG2/SD national streams.

The 'Network Decoder' tab will explain you receiver's Signal Strength Display.

Or for the more "technically exacting" to compliment gct's informative post ...

At 101W, D9S supplies 44 local spotbeam tps. distributed over 26 spotbeams to CONUS.

And D16 supplies 26 nationwide tps. on two fully overlapping CONUS + AK wide beams (13 odd numbered tps. on one beam and 13 even numbered on the other). As well as mirroring the outputs of those same 26 tps. (13+13) on two fully overlapping spotbeams for the odd/even tp. sets.

One pair to cover Hawaii and another for Puerto Rico.
