DIRECTV CSR reps are notorious for the lack of knowledge.

i have always belived they don't know what in the hell there doing!!! don't even get me going on the overseas ones

Have my HR-54 just sitting around....when I cancled they said keep it....its been maybe 4 months....never trust them from changing there minds

we asked again today the rep said they don't want anything back!!! i say keep the boxes and receipts for 500 years just incase they change there minds

directv taught me how to negotiate better deals . ofcourse they wanted to know why were leaving once our free year is up. i told em there service fk'n sucks!!!

They do have different generations of them. I believe the original box only had 2 GB of RAM while the newer ones have 4 GB of Ram. The Gemini Air though is newer than both generations of the Gemini (Osprey).

they act like the gemini can act like a hopper 3 . i have to remind em it's just a glorified streamingbox

The Gemini (originally called the Osprey) started as a streaming only option. DIRECTV then decided to convert them over for satellite. I have one for my satellite setup which installs as a client to my HR54 but can also be a client of the HR44 and the HS17 and it can either be wired via a DECA or wireless through a DIRECTV wireless video bridge. The hardware is the exact same for either DIRECTV Stream and DIRECTV Satellite. The installed DIRECTV software is different for satellite and stream. Originally only DIRECTV could change them from stream to satellite or satellite to stream but there are hacks posted on the internet so people can convert them over to the other service.I can't say how well it works as I have never tried to convert one from service to the other.

And yes you can buy the boxes off of ebay for the streaming service. If you do you won't have to pay the TV access fee but you won't get the free Disney+/Hulu bundle or the ESPN Unlimited plan that you get free if are leasing the box from DIRECTV.

Were you in the old original DIRECTV Stream service and grandfathered into it? There are new customers that claim they can't get it unless they lease the device from DIRECTV.
