DIRECTV CSR reps are notorious for the lack of knowledge.

i have always belived they don't know what in the hell there doing!!! don't even get me going on the overseas ones

Have my HR-54 just sitting around....when I cancled they said keep it....its been maybe 4 months....never trust them from changing there minds

we asked again today the rep said they don't want anything back!!! i say keep the boxes and receipts for 500 years just incase they change there minds

directv taught me how to negotiate better deals . ofcourse they wanted to know why were leaving once our free year is up. i told em there service fk'n sucks!!!

They do have different generations of them. I believe the original box only had 2 GB of RAM while the newer ones have 4 GB of Ram. The Gemini Air though is newer than both generations of the Gemini (Osprey).

they act like the gemini can act like a hopper 3 . i have to remind em it's just a glorified streamingbox

The Gemini (originally called the Osprey) started as a streaming only option. DIRECTV then decided to convert them over for satellite. I have one for my satellite setup which installs as a client to my HR54 but can also be a client of the HR44 and the HS17 and it can either be wired via a DECA or wireless through a DIRECTV wireless video bridge. The hardware is the exact same for either DIRECTV Stream and DIRECTV Satellite. The installed DIRECTV software is different for satellite and stream. Originally only DIRECTV could change them from stream to satellite or satellite to stream but there are hacks posted on the internet so people can convert them over to the other service.I can't say how well it works as I have never tried to convert one from service to the other.

And yes you can buy the boxes off of ebay for the streaming service. If you do you won't have to pay the TV access fee but you won't get the free Disney+/Hulu bundle or the ESPN Unlimited plan that you get free if are leasing the box from DIRECTV.

I am not paying a lease on any boxes and I received the Disney Bundle offer.
I have purchased several Gemini's and Air's from Ebay and FB Marketplace.

Were you in the old original DIRECTV Stream service and grandfathered into it? There are new customers that claim they can't get it unless they lease the device from DIRECTV.

Agreed…and if you jump from one service to another you are just changing who is screwing you over next. There is no place to go to get away from it.

you have to rotate services every so often so you won't get bent over the barrel without the grease as bad to get the best deals a real PIA!!!

well once the contract ends your more than welcome to walk but while your under contract they need to take care of you!!! also contracts are a way for these billion dollar companies to provide piss poor customer service since they know they got you!!!

HOLY sh*t WOW is all i can say
so i just looked at my acct this morning and i noticed they added 4 more 4k clients to my acct after doing a gemini upgrade. it might be time to get my lawyer involved and sue em. this nonsense has got to stop. maybe i should post this one unbeliveible

I'm not exactly sure when I switched from Sat to Stream. Is there a way to look that up?
I thought they used to list it somewhere on your account page.

Edit: Looks like March of '22 is when I switched.

I think then you were under the original DIRECTV Stream before they introduced DIRECTV via Internet which I think was in the Fall of 2023. If none of your devices came from DIRECTV I would guess you are getting the Disney+/Hulu bundle because of being grandfathered into the old service. Or you are just lucky!

File a complaint with the BBB. I have had good luck going that route though it has been awhile since I have had a need to use it. They always had someone call from the Office of the President within a couple of days. That was under the AT&T regime. Not sure if it will happen now under TPG.

been there done that the lady of the office of the president is a clown show she has no idea what she's doing let alone any business experience!!! as other issues were never really fixed!!! besides we were told that AT&T is still running the show even though there called directv employees there still really AT&T employees. there just not supposed to be called AT&T employes. just best to rid them from our lives!!!

this is new... before if you didn't want a gemini device you would loose some of the promo's and goodies. direct's still nickel and diming people to death..
