Can't view saved recordings on the DVR receiver HR44-500

Hello, I hope there is someone that can help with this problem. First I am asking this question for a friend who is in Juneau Alaska with their system on a vacation hold due to not being able to get a Sat Signal. However they have multiple programs recorded to the DVR but the HR44-500 receiver will not let them access them to watch. Is this normal? Is there any kind of work around to get past this problem. They have several months yet before they will return to the lower 48 and want to watch what they have saved?

when there is no sat signal you have anyplace from 5 min to 5 years before the dvr will stop allowing viewing of recordings

Unfortunately you don't have access to recorded content when the account is on hold.
