CBS' Jericho: A Familiar Story

They admit their mistake with the hiatus.. what Zap2It doesn't point out is that it was moved to a time slot opposite AI when it came back. Duh! Don't you think that might account for most of the ratings drop off (not everyone has two tuner DVRs)!

For the VP of Programming to even suggest CSI in her reply is insulting.

Keep those emails and petitions going!

You are right about AI. I forgot about that; since I do have a three tuner DVR. ;)

I think we should focus on that in complaints.

when you look at the ratings, it was better than the 1st season of 24. and look how popular that is now, even getting a 2 "day" extention.

Some governement intrest group just has to be in on this one.

and I'm not joking.

CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler takes a harder view. The president of the top-ranked U.S. network said that running a TV network is about honouring a commitment to programs that are successful, not coddling those that aren't. If a low-rated serial drama doesn't get the chance to tell the end of its story, Tassler said, that's just too bad.

"That show would still be on the air if the audience was there," Tassler said bluntly. "No programmer wants to piss off their audience. When that happens, it's unfortunate. Part of what we try to do is create viewer loyalty, and then build on that . . . . But we're running a business."

I would also suggest we call or write the actual owner of the Jericho series, which is CBS Paramount Television, a different division of CBS Corporation. Here is some contact information that might be helpful. If anyone is going to be interested in placing Jericho on another network, its CBS Paramount, not CBS Broadcasting in NY:

Glenn Geller
Senior Vice President, Current Programming; CBS Paramount Network Television

CBS Paramount Television
5555 Melrose Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90038

(323) 956-5000 (I believe this is the main number for CBS Paramount in Los Angeles)"

this from a member of the CBS board on jericho posted all of these.

OK here is a form letter:

To Whom it May Concern,

I am writing you this email to express my disappointment in the cancellation of Jericho.

I have been a loyal viewer of the show since day one and have enjoyed the show immensely. I understand the ratings were down but that is because you had it up against American Idol which nobody can compete with.

I don't understand why instead of cancelling the show you just didn't air it at a different time.

Please reconsider the cancellation of Jericho. I feel very strongly that cancelling the show has a negative impact on how viewers feel about CBS. I know it certainly has for me.

Sincerely,

Count me In

Jericho is/was much better entertainment then those reality shows. I've signed up for the petition. Gonna miss it if it doesn't get reconsidered.

I guess the networks forget about series like...

STAR TREK... (many movies and 4 spin off series after it was cancelled)

3rd Rock From The Sun... jumped form one network to another ...

DVR's (TIVO's, DISH DVR's, PVR/DVR's and peoples own PC's with DVR capability... oh yeah... VCR's...) so people can attempt to catch ALL the shows that the Networks put up against each other in the same time slot...

Ratings just do not collect all that they need to ...

Ted...

I am with you, but even though I like Jericho a lot, it ain't Star Trek. :)

Networks are focused on the most advertising revenue they can bring in; and that is based first and foremost on ratings. I agree, the rating system needs serious work, but its still the only game in town. They are slowly taking into account DVR usage, but its not quite there yet.

Need I remind you that for 85% of America at the time, that were or are not tech geeks, Star Trek sucked major wind. And from a television and drama standpoint, it still does....Its what the show meant many years later that caused it to become the phenom that it is today.

Today, its more about covering their own asses (just like the government) then it is making viewers happy...

I say hit them with everything we've got!!! Maybe its time some listened!!
