Ciel 2 Tracking

Does it have to move before C2 can move to the same location? If not, does this mean there might be a lag period while they reposition both sats??

TIA..

Of course it has to wait to move until C2 is in place at 129, tested, and traffic transferred.

Ciel-2 will move to the area of 129. The channels will be transferred from EchoStar 5. Echostar 5 will depart 129 for 148. If EchoStar 5 was in the exact position which Ciel-2 is supposed to occupy then Ciel-2 will slowly dirft to its final position while providing service. Or as was the case with the EchoStar 8 to EchoStar 11 transition. EchoStar 5 may slowly move .2 degrees out and then Ciel-2 will move in before the channels are moved over.

Although they have the same assigned location, 129, there is really a great deal of space up there, and a few satellites can occupy the same "spot." IIRC, there's something like 75 miles leeway, plus a little further up and down, for satellites at any given "address."

Thanks for the answers... as for the leeway in position, I'd wondered, since current sat is so sensitive to wobble or whatever it does that causes it to go from high 30's to zero here about every 10 or 15 minutes at times... other times, it seems solid for a bit longer.. Completely useless though if you are interested at all in what you are watching, as it seems to have an uncanny ability to drop signal at the worst possible times..

Another update - no movement -- again two in one day.

New 129 vs. Old 129

I currently reside in Ohio and have a 100.4 with wing 61.5. I recently covered my 129 LNB simply because my receiver kept locking on the 129 sat for my HD. This went out "with a clear view of the SW sky" a lot. With this new bird going to 129 what is the power difference between the current 129 and the new? Wondering if I should remove the foil :) give myself the best possible signal.
