Customer Service Phone Disconnects

I called DirecTv Customer Service to discuss new equipment and after speaking to a rep. was put on hold. A few minutes later, the phone disconnected. I immediately called back and after going through the menu once again, a new rep. listened to my request and then put me on hold. After about 5 minutes, I was once again disconnected. Is this a common occurrence? It almost seems like the phones are programmed to disconnect after a period of time has passed.
 
It is definitely not a common occurrence, but I had the same experience today calling in about a problem with a specific box on a specific channel.. I wasn't even getting to a rep before being disconnected.. When I finally got through after 4 tries, and I told the CSR about it, he told me that they are having issues with the phone system and it's being worked on.
