whatever its in the quotes, lol! I just like how after we both write about people saying that, my boy comes in writes how voom is better...we get it, Directv uses compression, but again lets just wait and see with the new birds, no use trying to ride a dead horse here as this isnt going to go away without more bandwidth.

D* can easily open up bandwidth so they can uncompress the HD channels. Take the 50 church channels they carry and compress them so far that are muddy. There is nothing on those channels that you need high resolution to see anyway. You would only be pissing off the 1% of the viewers who watch that junk and the 1% that are paying premiums for the HD service would stop complaining.

I don't agree. I notice macro blocking and the fuzziness on my own and then came on here to see if anybody else noticed.

The picture quality of HD channels on Directv has been deteriorating steadily over the past year that I've subscribed to it. Anyone who states otherwise is either fooling themselves or needs their glasses changed! I agree that since we are subscribed to the service for HD service we should receive nothing less than that. Everyone that subscribes to the HD service should be loudly complaining and making Directv very aware that the present situation and any possible plans to down-rez HD are totally unacceptable! The SD quality is also generally poorer than it was when I was converted to Directv from Primestar several years ago. BTW, the SD picture quality I had on Primestar was the best I've seen on a DBS provider.

I for one am going to call directv and tell tehm your channels look like crap....And then I am going to call them back where is TNT HD, Where is ESPN2 HD, get them on....GET OFF OF YOUR HORSE, WAIT TILL THE NEW BIRDS ARE UP, IF YOU DONT LIKE IT GO TO OTA AND VOOM! complain when the new sat's are up, you guys dont get it do you, they are trying to reach a happy middle right now, but as always, customers complain, well good luck!

You got it. I used to watch things I wouldn't normally care about simply because they were in HD. Now I just change the channel.

If the CSR does not seem to know what you are talking about, ask for the HD specialist. They might transfer you to someone who may (or may not) understand you better.

I want to file a complaint to the highest authority concerning this downrezzing issue. Would contacting the FCC be the right agency or would that be a waste of time? I plan on expressing my complaint over the phone rather than email. This downrezzing is wrong whether you can tell a difference in quality or not.

Okay, I have found a contact person at the FCC who will file my complaint. The FCC said an email would be perferred because then they will have a paper trail or something like that to file. I need help on what to put in this email. Any suggestions would be appreciate and the person I spoke with said the more specific I can be in the email the better.

While some of our TVs may not notice the difference from 1920x1080 to 1280x1080 now, 1080p panels will become the prominent display on the market fairly soon.

You may be able to make a case that someone would subscribe to DirecTV because they know DiscoveryHD, HDNet, and others broadcast in full 1920x1080 and want to take full advantage of that. These people would be disappointed when they find out they are not getting the full resolution and could claim false advertising on DirecTV's part. They may see an even worse picture than people with 1280x720 displays, as their TV would then have to convert the 1280x1080 signal back to 1920x1080 to fit their TV.

Good luck with the efforts.

One step to help improve the quality is to mention to the company buying ad's that there product sure looks more inviting to purchase when it is shown in HD :)

Channels that could be eliminated include:
ABC Family
America’s Store
(1) Bloomberg channel
(1) CNN
(1) CSPAN
(1) CNBC
(1) Nickelodeon
ALL PBS other than 1 Nat’l feed
ALL E or W Feeds INCLUDING Movie Networks! (Buy a DVR all…)
RFD-TV
All interactive channels (these are a waste of space in my opinion)

I mean really, does anyone need to duplicate networks or watch most of the other channels!?!? RSN’s should be compressed all to crap too unless there are events on in that market. Personally I have watched my RSN like 15 times in the last 3 years, and I am an avid sports fan!!!

Uh … OK … huh huh huh huh.

I would like to see you make this same statement after viewing an OTA HD program. My local news (KUSA*DT) looks better than HDNet, something is inherently wrong with that.

I get the macroblocking primarily in my SD programming and that really ticks me off. AT least in HD there is some room for error when it comes to quality.

Ah …. The era before the infomercial, life was soooooooo good then. People should be making a fuss, it is substandard quality. It ticks me off to even have an HD package fee. In 5 years when all channels are HD, what will they do then? Charge more? I think not … I’ll spearhead the ensuing riot. I also think it is plain wrong that TC Premire customer have to pay for the HD pack, that should be rolled in.

Well enough about me! :dev:

Would tick me off even more if I were paying for it. Mine is free until end of May. By the time I pay for it again my market will be real close to changing over to Mpeg-4.

I don't think so! That takes away quite a bit of my television viewing. How about taking away some of the news channels like FOX News and MSNBC, and only keeping CNN. How about taking out some of the sports channels that are not necessary, or Sunday Ticket, NBA League Pass, MLB Extra Innings and the like. How about taking away Playboy, Hot Zone, Spice and all that crap, but leave some decent programming on TV.

BTW, while I wish they would take off the programming listed above, I realize that there are people out there who are glad that DirecTV has it, and thought I'd have a little fun with it since I couldn't believe you listed ABC Family and Nick... two of my favorite channels.

It would seem to me if they were trying to hit a happy medium they would get rid of the useless channels to free up some bandwidth. You know crap like the shopping stations and all the Directv info stations to start with. All you have to do is flip thru the stations to see how much wasted bandwidth they have.

yeah I understand that, but all I am saying is they have new sats. going up and people are complaining, I would wait, trust me I notice a difference in the HD, but I am going to wait and complain when the new sats go up, also wouldnt you believe someone on the all shopping forum is going to complain when they take away the channels that are wasted bandwidth! :D

Yeah I'm not going to complain either. D* is still the best thing going inspite the bandwidth problems.

No I don't need glasses.......maybe YOU need a Better TV, Receiver, dish, cables or something.
After watching Get Out! last night on HDNET........and those gals in the bikini's.....HOTT~
I could count the freckles on her tight li'l bod.....so I guess you're right, The service is all fuzzy and unwatchable..........NOT!
