Dear Friends... (A Note about the Sling Adapter Promotion)

Mine is on the truck for delivery and will be in my hot little hands tonight. I can't wait to get it hooked up and working. Woohoo!

Mine was delivered this morning. Plugged it in and was able to test view a program via my iphone.
Now I'm getting an error when trying to view live TV via PC that "Out systems are being updated (7). Please wait a few minutes, then try again."

Its more likely a problem with the firewall at work though.

I have seen that on a 922 during a new connect. Waiting until the next day fixed the issue. I think it has something to do with the online thing not fully recognizing your ability to watch. I doubt it's the firewall, just wait and give it a shot on the pc tomorrow.

Okay, I am an early adopter by 2 months, so I figured I would try anyway. I called a CSR, got transferred to an account specialist who took pity upon my getting hosed as an early adopter and threw a couple juicy bones my way... you may want to give it a shot if you are an early adopter...

Their web site was down this morning. It's back up now.

Just took a look at my profile at Dishnet. Looks like an extra $8 has been added to my next payment. Is Dish charging for shipping the adapter to our accounts? Can others check their accounts?

Just had my first chat and ordered the free sling adapter. Because I bundle with telephone I ended up speaking with three different reps. Still no problem. Tks Scott for this information site because I would never have known about this.:)

I have a couple of questions concerning the sling adapter.

1- does it matter if the 722k is in single mode or dual mode?
2- if you try to use the sling while tuner #2 is recording a program, will it disrupt the recording or will you have to watch the program being recorded?

Thanks.

@ smokey982

1 if its in single mode it will auto dual mode then go back to single when logged off.
2 If #2 is recording it will give you a warning just like TV2 when your about to stop the recording to watch live tv or you could watch a dvr program untill tv2 is done recording

You *can* watch another recorded show while something is recording on TV 2, but quite frequently I've found that causes your receiver to reboot and the recording gets interrupted (resuming in a few minutes after the reboot).

My general rule of thumb is, if I'm recording something that's not likely to repeat anytime soon (like network TV), I refrain from using DRA...but if it's on a cable network and repeats again the same day/night I go ahead and give DRA a shot as I can always schedule another recording later. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it does the reboot/interrupted recording thing.

I've noticed if you are recording on BOTH tuners, it's almost certain the reboot will happen. Just a heads-up...your mileage may vary.

Got charged sales tax here in CA, but free shipping.

In CHAT now to get this. Noticed on my bill that I'm being charged $10/month for Platinum. Thought that went away?

There was a period when HD+Platinum was $10/mo, but that went away with the advent of HD FFL. So Platinum regained it's $10 status except for those of us who cleverly arranged to get it free for a year. ;)

Sure seemed to me I used to get it for free. Maybe not.

Got the adapter on it's way.

I could of sworn I read somewhere that said it HAD to be set in Dual mode or you couldn't use the sling at all? I can't find it now, but I know I read that somewhere. Was that changed in a recent software update?

The install sheet that comes with theSling says:

When the Sling Adapter is connected to a multi-room receiver (and come on really? the 722 is the only receiver that is supported so why even say that?), changing channels remotely is the same as changing them at home on TV2 and you are essentially sharing that TV with those at home.
So to me that says that it has to be in dual mode, but that's not what I was looking for, what I read before specifically stated that it must remain in dual mode. Which is why I ask if it was changed with a software update or something, I'd like to know for sure that is how it is, since I install them often and sometimes in houses that use the receiver for only 1 tv.

Found this in another thread that was on here from November 2010:

All,

A friend of mine was able to get a hold of a Dish tech who was actually customer service centric and knowledgeable of the the product. Go figure on that. Anyway, the problem was caused by being in single vice dual mode. The Sling adapter requires that you be in dual mode and NOT in single mode. It must be able to "hijack" the TV2 tuner to perform. Therefore, it is recommended that you have your recordings default to to TV1. The steps we followed were as follows: Plug in your Sling adapter. Wait a minute or more. Unplug your receiver. Wait 10 Seconds. Switch to dual mode. Ensure your Dish account on the iPhone is logged off and the app is closed. Restart app. Login. Ensure you are pointing to the right receiver. The key thing is that TV 2 must be available for the Sling player to use!

This worked for him and me so I am confident it will work for anyone else. Apparently not many folks out there use their receivers in single mode. For those who do, you can't with the sling player if you expect to be able to watch DVR recorded programs.

But for the record, I'm not saying you're wrong, just showing where I read it before and hoping for more clarification.

Works in single mode here... you can watch it automatically flip over to dual mode then back to single.
