Anyone know if these are any good? Online for anywhere from 500 - 700. Looks like the ring is the same as my 6 footer so I was thinking I could use the same mount. Thoughts before I try to get one of these?

The plan would be to use the old 6 as a dedicated Ku dish, and the 8 for C. Would this be the same dish as the FORTEC 240 CM (7.83') Prime Focus Fixed Mount Satellite Dish I saw on another website for 378 shipped?

The Digiwave sure looks like the Fortec dish; including the panels, lnb support arms and base. Interesting that during a search, Staples (the office supply company) lists them.

I'd suppose the two dishes come out of the same factory. Posted specs show gain differences in the C-band and Ku-band between the two. Couldn't find any specs on metal gauges for either dish, though the Fortec specs show a higher shipping weight.

Are there not any used 7.5' or 8' dishes in your area? I haven't had one of those type of dishes, but I'd be more inclined to find a good used dish. Even if it requires a little repair work.

Fred555 had a similar idea of using his 6' Fortec for 125W-Ku:http://www.satelliteguys.us/xen/threads/pbs-finally-i-hope.351960/#post-3706371

I have been watching craigslist but I NEVER see anything around this town, I might be the only FTA guy around these parts. We did have a shop over in Waco that sold satellite stuff, but mostly DirecTV equipment. Maybe I should open a business around here somewhere. I could get 1 customer per month I bet. I emailed the local high school about a 10 foot DH they no longer use, but that was all I heard from them about it, not holding my breath but I would love to get that one. It's all one piece though. Then there is this company http://catalog.vincor.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=DH-AZEL30M which is so confusing as to what you are getting and how to order it. 930 bucks does not seem bad if that is all I would need to get from them. I'll get something like that soon. I just need to learn more about what works with what. And also get land in the country.

I would avoid the Digiwave 2.4. It is even lighter weight construction than the Fortec similar model.

You could buy the dish listed on Vincor directly from DH Satellite. Btw, a AZ/EL is for fixed dish single satellite aiming. You probably would want a polar mount option to track the arc.

You are correct, as always, I would need the polar mount option and most likely have to get the 4 section option too. But you think the Fortec model would be quite the improvement over my current 6 foot model? Also what are the chances that the ring on the back would match my mount?

Bigger is better if the surface is accurate. Doubt that it will overcome the tree blockage.

The Fortec mounting points would be different, but it could be easily modified and mounted.
Check out my other post about the tree blockage :D
