DirecTV DVR HR21-200 receiver help

I needed a receiver for my bedroom. My brother-in-law previously had DTV but did not return the HR21-200. Of course, DTV reported it to his credit. Anyway, will I be able to activate the unit and card?

No,they'll likely refurb it & send it back out.

They'd rather see you have a tech come visit and lock in another 24 month contract. A lot of people don't realize about just adding a used receiver is a lot of work. The RID# and serial# are "married" to the account and each other. Moving that information is a lot more difficult than people realize.
