99.99% of people that want ST, HAVE ST. Nobody, with maybe 30 exceptions nationwide, is sitting around staring dumbly at their Amazon app wishing and wishing it got ST.

No, they call DirecTV, and they get DirecTV. Really that simple.
Again untrue, just because you like DirecTV does not mean everyone does, I do not wish to pay for 11 boxes every month and RSN fees for a channel I will never watch, considering that DirecTV is now down to about 12 million subs from a high of 21 million, there is a lot more like me.

I also prefer the better picture I get from streaming
For commercial, it gets more complicated. What use does a bar have with Netflix? Apple TV? Et al ?

ESPN+ seems the most logical. Unless they just shell out commercial to DirecTV.
Actually Amazon would be, they already have a business division, Amazon Business, they would be able to handle it.
Opening it up to more than one provider is nonsense.
Depending on who gets it and if they need to farm out business customers.

All “Amazon for Business” is is, well, if you are a business, you can order from Amazon. And?

Again, you are giving a absolute based on your opinion, not evidence, I cannot think of one business that does not have internet, it is pretty much needed nowadays, but using your example, a neighborhood bar might need it for e-mail, Taxes, even Credit Card Processing, when I owned my business, I received a tad better discount on processing fees using the internet instead of the phone line.

Now when I say internet for Businesses, I did not say public wi-fi, Walgreens for one example has wi-fi, just not public, one of my wife’s doctor office, same, not public.

Just reason and common sense. I refuse to believe that there are people sitting looking at their TV, longing for ST, but evil ole DirecTV has it. Looking longingly at the Amazon app, if only.

Video quality internet?

You need to get out more.

Millions of bar and restaurants and such, the CORE target for ST, have no need of video quality internet.

But anyway, when ST is launched on the internet, the number of people that will want it will be within the margin of error, say 5% either way, of those that have it now. Because no statistically significant number of people are sitting about, dumbly staring at their TV, longing for a service that is available, because evil ole’ DirecTV is the provider.

Apple is once again said to be in talks with the NFL about acquiring the streaming rights for Sunday Ticket games. According to a new report from Sports Business Journal this week, Amazon and Apple are the “front-runners” to acquire the rights to NFL Sunday Ticket starting in 2023.

The report indicates that negations are still ongoing and could change. Apple and Amazon are said to be “front-runners,” but Disney is also involved. The report indicates, however, that Disney’s offer for the package is “well below the amount Apple and Amazon have discussed.”

As it stands today, DirecTV currently has the rights to the out-of-market NFL Sunday package, but it is not expected to renew its agreement when it expires after the 2023 season. DirecTV pays around $1.5 billion per year as part of this deal, but this report suggests a deal between Apple or Amazon and the NFL could be worth more than $2 billion per year.

Additionally, DirecTV is said to be negotiating a separate deal with the NFL that would give it a commercial license for selling Sunday Ticket to restaurants, bars, and other such venues.


If DirecTV does get the Business Customers, makes a little more sense for Apple, still think Amazon is the better fit, but personally, since I can get itunes cards with my Credit Card points, that means free for me.

Most all businesses have internet, but not for customers ....
They have VERY SLOW internet in most cases as high speed isn't needed for what they use the internet for ... CC machines.

99 times out of 100 we turn the WiFi OFF when setting up a modem for the Business customer.

Sooner or later, businesses that have Televisions ( Bars for one example) are going to have to upgrade their broadband, things are changing quickly, programming is making the shift to streaming, Sunday Ticket is the biggest example.

I know, I posted it, but that is only if Apple gets the rights, if Amazon gets it, they will probably do Business Customers themselves.

Also, why I said sooner or later, even DirecTV is trying to move to streaming only, so if they get Business Subs for NFLST on Satellite, this will probably be the last contract based to do so.

They have all kinds of copyright issues with streaming..up to and including commercials..thats why MLBtv blocks commercials on streaming baseball games...and if they catch you streaming music for your establishment..the fines could be enormous

Directv is Not trying to go to streaming ....
ATT was trying to get D* to go to streaming.
Sure they have an app for streaming, but so does everyone else.

I can’t imagine a sports bar that doesn’t have internet that can support streaming. ESPN+ is a necessity for NHL, MLS, FA Cup, and college sports. Paramount+ for UEFA. Peacock for EPL.

I have never gone to a sports bar to watch an NFL game. I might if there was a bar I could go to and meet up with fellow fans of the team from where I grew up (I can’t believe that the NFL doesn’t have out-of-market supporters groups… ok, I know a local Steelers and a Packers bar, but that’s beside the point).

I’ll go for games involving my university with the local alumni group, or EPL games with my team’s supporters group. It’s amazing that a soccer teams from London, Manchester, and Liverpool can fill multiple sports bars in a town in the Midwest at 8 AM on a Sunday morning. Most of these games are streaming only.

I went to a Power 5 school, live outside that area that the conference schools cover, so not all games are available on broadcast or cable. Plus, social aspects of getting together with people I have something in common with. A sports bar better have streaming to show the my school’s alumni group’s game or we’ll find somewhere that can show all the games. ( I’m one of 40 or 50 people that show up and buy a couple beers and food during the game).

When it comes to the NFL, local games are shown in market OTA (blackout rules apply). Sunday Ticket is for out of market. Guys like me. I have no clue where to go to watch my team. I’d definitely rather spend $300+ a season at a sports bar for the social aspects than pay for Sunday Ticket. I’m not paying that to sit on my couch at home. There are other places I can go other things I can do.

BTW, I am a season ticket holder for my local MLS team. I haven’t been to an NFL game in over 20 years. Rarely watch the NFL on TV. I’ll go to a couple of MLB games a year. I might go up an NHL game or two if I lived close to a team.

I’m not going to mention in-market MLB, NHL, or MLB games and the future of RSNs. Lots of people watch their local team on the local RSN, typically one of the highest rated show in its market. Granted, for a single RSN, it’s small number small compared to national cable channels. But, on aggregate, national total number of viewers, RSNs rival the most popular cable channels or OTA networks. If these are kicked off cable or satellite, it will push people to streaming.

When I go to DirecTV.com, why is it letting me choose between Streaming and Sat. Service?

Actually, RSNs get very low ratings, it is a dedicated audience, but not that many, I already pointed out here in Florida, a state over 20 million, the NHL team, the Panthers, on Bally Sports Florida Statewide, had a average rating under 8,000 people, another example from 2021 is the Boston Red Sox on NESN had a average TV household of 84,731, the Boston Metro Area Population is 4,315,000, that means less then 2% were watching the Red Sox via the RSN.

Also, Traditional Providers that have the RSNs are losing the most subscribers, the only Live TV Services gaining subs are Hulu Live and YTTV, both with 4 million subs each, neither have RSNs.

That was ATT's doing, It was up before they left, so it will stay.

AT&T still runs everything and owns 70%, so controlling interest in the company, the sale of 30% was to get DirecTV off the books, tax purposes and some quick cash, TPG is already trying to cash out-

Talks between the satellite-TV giants are being pushed forward by private-equity behemoth TPG Capital, according to sources close to the situation. TPG bought 30 percent of DirecTV from AT&T in a deal last February that gave the struggling company an enterprise value of $16.25 billion.

“TPG is driving the conversations. They want their investment back,” a source close to the situation said.

Yes D* has an app ... do they update it and manage it, probably not, Att probably does that.

What were we complaining about that neither can agree on ?
