3.0 may or may not be encrypted in time. They are experimenting with it. Not that I care about 3.0 Next Gen TV, but in time 1.0 will probably go away leaving 3.0 Next Gen OTA. You "may" get your local nets for free, but the sub channels, at least some may be pay. I do believe by that time, everything much will be streaming, so OTA will not be that important.
