Dish Change Question

Dish installers, how do you ground a pole mount setup now days? Is the pole a good ground or do you also run a green ground wire back to the home ground?

In the olden days, the only name we had was LNA (Low Noise Amplifier). Then block down conversion come along as LNBA (Low Noise BLock converting Amplifier). That's mostly fallen out of favor, but I still use it out of habit. Both LNB and LNBF are the common acronyms these days.

But, no matter which acronym you use, most here will know what you mean (but perhaps with minor acronym police quibbling).

Or like I mentioned, without contractions you could end up with an "LNABDCF". Yes, probably the first LNBs were referenced as LNBA (could have as easily been LNAB), then shortened just to LNB. The F was then added to distinguish between an LNB without an integrated feedhorn(s) and one with.

I know Jim explained it above but every "eye" on a video Dish is an LNBF.

The pickups facing the dish are actually the feedhorn(s), which are a component of the overall LNBF unit that attaches to the plastic adapter.

Installers, for a pole mount, what do you use to protect the coax from a weed eater?

If you are weed eating right up to the pole, then just get a short curved electrical conduit and run the cable through that and zip tie it to the pole and bury the curved part at the bottom.

Just use something less than a 90 degree curve and it will run out the bottom.

Dish stopped by today to install a pole mount. No one called Jule to mark utilities, he will come back for the pole mount next week after utilities are marked. So, he temp installed a 1000.2 western arc with three Hybrid LNBs. I told him that I needed DPP LNBs because I have a DPH42 switch that feed both Hopper 3s. He said no switch is required anymore that the 119 and 110 coax go direct to a Duo Hub. So, after he temp installed the dish we went to the basement to bypass my DPH42 switch and connect coax direct to my Duo Hub. He saw the switch and noticed it said DPH on it and said he doesn't need to bypass it. I said I didn't think the DPH LNBs shouldn't have a DPH42 switch in the mix. He said it was OK. So, we checked the Hopper 3s out and they both work OK with signal strength in the lower 70s.

Installers, is it ok to have Hybrid LNBs connected to a DPH42 switch? Both Hopper 3s don't have any problems so far. Will this cause issues down the road? Also, is someone at Dish suppose to call Julie to mark utilities for pole mounts or was I supposed to call them?

The DPH42 switch should be used with DP or DPP LNBFs, not DPH, it's on page 5 of the DPH42 manual.

Personally I'd ditch the multi switch and just use the hybrid duo hub, this will be a simpler setup because you won't need the power inserter anymore, and there's never a need for 2 wing dishes. (If you ever find the need for a single wing dish, that LNBF does have an input port).

He can't do that because the dual H3 setup requires the 42 switch. It's all about power insertion at the switch.

Technician was an internal tech from the Dish office in St Charles, MO, just outside of St Louis. He clearly needs more training for two Hopper 3s setup. I am going to reach out today to Dish tech support in Colorado and let them know about my install venture. The technician acted surprised that utilities weren't marked yet. I never got a clear answer from him about why Julie wasn't called. After he got done yesterday, he called Julie to set up the utilities work order. Suppose to be done by Friday and Dish pole mount install is scheduled for next Thursday.

Technician said when they come back for the pole mount, they are going to remove my coax and use an orange bury type coax. Also, they use a 6 foot pole instead of 8 foot and bury it 3 feet using foam. Pole is dented a one end for anti-spin.

Unless YOU are doing the work, you do not call in the locate. The company that is doing the work is required to make the call

I could be mistaken, it might of been 8' but sure looked shorter to me. Doesn't seem right just 3' out of the ground. I might of guessed wrong.

I talked to Dish tech support. She said there isn't any problems using DPH LNBs with a DPH42 switch. She went in and looked at my Hopper 3 Plus electronic readings and said everything looks good. Also, she said they are still developing a new two LNB setup for the Western Arc 1000.2 dish since 129 is gone.
