DISH Hacked - Websites are BACK ONLINE!

Anyway, I believe the “crackers” that hit them are probably sophisticated enough to plant multiple “bombs” in multiple places under multiple variations. So as to hopefully outlast any backups. So all backups are infected, or so many as to make recover from them hardly worth it. Wait, wait, wait- and then trigger.

First pictures leaked of Dish trying to fix the problem-

They were likely breached and had to shut everything down until they figure out how to secure the network. Expect all employees and anyone with access to have to reset their passwords once they get things back online.
At least we still got paid. And I'm sitting here not at work, but told by my coach that we'll still get paid for these days. So there's that, I guess.

I am really totally amazed by this. My guess is at this point they are searching for answers and have no clue what to do next. If they systems are being held for ransom don't expect things to be as normal for some time.

As I eluded to earlier I had worked for a major service provider. We had an extensive 7 states online primary network system. In hot backup was a secondary software independent system that was completely isolated from the outside world that could be switched online to replace the primary system in under 3 hours. We also had a number off full system backups for every node in the network deemed critical most being offsite from the affected node. True we were much larger company and had well over 75 million customers but we also had one hell of a world class IT department.

Obviously, not to Monday morning quarterback Dish was and is totally out of tune with today's data and systems security safeguards. Add to that their heavy use of VPN services that allow a good number of their employees to work from home and Bingo, there you go. When the smoke clears this one is gonna cost them big time. I am sure any customer will be legally entitled to credit protection services that Dish will be responsible for.

I hate to be an alarmist but personally, if you have a credit card on file with Dish I would not wait, post a fraud alert on Experian, Equifax or Transunion just to be safe. It costs nothing is a simple phone call but could save you some major aggravation. Like other here all my Credit Card accounts are in a frozen status, I keep them that way.
Experian: (888) 397-3742)
Equifax: (800) 525-6285)
TransUnion: (800-262-7771)
It a shifty world we live in these days and you need to protect your credit as best you can. Lets just all hope for the best and its not as bad as it seems.

Yep...The cats out of the bag now..Charlie can't hide it any longer...Those of you that pay using debt cards are now subject to your account being hacked..Never pay bills with debit card..Credit card companies will take care of unauthorized charges..Banks won't..
Not true. My Debit was compromised a couple of years ago and I was fully reimbursed.

Here are the facts:
Lost or Stolen Credit, ATM, and Debit Cards

Maybe yours did but not everyone will be that fortunate...Did you report your loss or stolen card???remember..they will have your account and personal information for some time...doesn't mean it will happen in the next month or so...I've already been through the crap before...This is total BS...Charlie is trying to figure out a way to make it look like he is innocent in this whole thing!!! People are foolish if they believe their info hasn't been compromised!!!! Let's make up some more excuses for the loyal fan base here.....Where are the DISH REPS NOW.??? I HAVEN'T HEARD FROM THEM SINCE THIS ALL STARTED..HAVE YOU????...Charlie was blindsided by this attack with his focus only on the 5g network...They were stupid to not see it coming!!..There's no corporation that would be out for the time period without having a reliable backup system in place..you don't have to be a IT genius to know this...It's obvious some go down with the captain

You know, with all the crap the major "news" networks present as "news", you'd think that one of them would take up this story: a large corporation's customer service down for 4 days and employees not able to work. (Of course maybe they did and I blinked my eyes and just missed it.)

Nows not the time to publicize a cyber attack

A: You obviously didn't read the article from the FTC that I linked, it explains that banks are required by law to reimburse as long as you pay attention and don't wait too long to report it. Read the article.
B: You're combining two issues ; Debit card reimbursement and Dish's systems issues. I was commenting on the first which is covered by law, not the second which is nebulous.

The fact that this happened makes me wonder if Dish's IT support is internal or farmed out. Farming IT support out in the myopic thought that it will save money is the great mistake so many corps make and it usually comes back to bite them. Believe me as a systems specialist I've seen it first hand. Corps farm out the support thereby losing control and generally being in the dark as to what is or is not being done correctly to protect the business. Company employees have a vested interest, independent contractors do not. Contractors are not there to look out for the best interests of the company, they are only there to do the specifics listed in the negotiated agreement between the corp and the external support company. Did Dish screw up someplace? You bet and if it were my operation somebody's head would roll, either internal IT people if it was internal, or the internal person who made the decision to farm it out. No corp in this day and age should be so interconnected systems wise that an entire business can be brought down like this. It's inexcusable.
