DISH Hopper H 711 software version

It doesn't matter what button I press repeatedly, but it takes multiple presses (twice now, up to 46 times) to "wake up" my H3. I just use the View button because it does the least innocuous thing on-screen when it responds. Guide pops full screen, as does Info or Menu or DVR. So I just press View repeatedly, about once per second, until the banner at the top of the screen appears, and then my H3 responds normally after that.

I've tested everything I have programmed into my Pronto Pro, and everything responds immediately to IR commands from it. Only my Hopper 3 (after not receiving an IR command for an hour or so), takes extra IR blasts in order to "awaken" it. This wasn't an issue at all until the H711 update.

I initially received the H711 firmware update for my Dish Hopper 3 on approximately Aug. 10. Shortly thereafter I started having issues with startups and shutdowns of the Dish Hopper 3 with both my Sofabaton X2 universal remote and the OEM Dish remote version 54.0. Both of these remotes have previously worked perfectly for several months.

Yesterday my wife was watching Dish Network using the OEM Dish remote and when she went into the user guide and then pressed the Channel Up/Channel Down button (scrolls one page at a time) and the Dish Hopper 3 would either shutoff or go into standby. This happens only intermittently and is very difficult to reproduce. I believe that the new H711 firmware is causing the issues as I have tried using a brand new Dish Hopper 3 sent to me by Dish and still have the issues. This new Dish Hopper 3 also has the H711 firmware as of August 23. I also paired another OEM Dish 54.0 remote that I have to the Dish Hopper 3 to see if that would fix the issue, but it did not.

I spoke with Dish support yesterday (Friday, Aug. 28) and explained everything to the Dish support representative and he opened a ticket with the Dish IT support team while we were on the phone. Will the new firmware bug get corrected by Dish? I don't have any idea, but wanted to officially log this as there are likely other Dish customers with the same issue.

So bottom line, I am glad that some of the Harmony users and others are also having the same issue as that might shine a light on this issue for the Dish IT support team that it is more widespread than initially thought. I wish there was a way to revert back to the previous firmware version for the Dish Hopper 3 and then I could determine if the new firmware caused the issue.

Yep, if I could rollback to whatever firmware version was on my H3 before H711, I'd do it in a hot second because it was working great until 8/13/26, when H711 showed up...

I am 100 percent with you on wishing we had the ability to roll back to the firmware that was on our Dish Hopper 3 prior to the H711 firmware update. Well hopefully the Dish IT support team will get this sorted out and fix the H711 firmware.

Yesterday in addition to the seemingly random behavior of the Dish Hopper 3 where it intermittently goes into 'Standby' when in the user guide and pressing the Channel Up/Channel Down buttons it also occurs randomly when pressing the down arrow from the directional keypad with the 'Select' button in the center.

3 times over the course of 1 to 1.5 hours the Dish Hopper 3 went into 'Standby' when we were just watching a Dish program and the OEM Dish remote control was sitting on the coffee table and not being touched so the behavior since the firmware upgrade is very puzzling to say the least. The prior 8.5 years as a Dish customer this type of malfunction has never occurred.

I see that brittanygarden, Manager of DISH Technical Operations, is active in this thread so hopefully this information is getting passed on to the Dish IT technical support team. I am available as a BETA tester should the need arise for a field tester to get this corrected.

My current Dish promotional deal runs through mid-January and if this firmware issue is not resolved I will not remain a Dish customer at that point.

Ok, so I've adopted a "fix" that I would definitely call a kludge. Once or twice an hour, I tap the View button on my remote just to attempt to keep the IR side of my H3 "awake". Sometimes it takes two taps to pop the banner, but at least it keeps it "awake" and responsive.

Do I feel like a trained monkey? Yup... :(
I've PM'd you as well

Please let us know what is happening.
I worked with brittanygarden and send her several PM's on what was happening on my end. I just sent her another fairly lengthy PM detailing the steps that I am using to reproduce the issue on my end. She has her engineering team looking into the issue.

As soon as I know more I will post in this thread.

I have a couple of remote control issues since that update.

1. On the Hopper3, in addition to the Dish remote, I am setup to use the Samsung TV remote. Previously, if I turned on the TV with that remote, I could press select to wake up the hopper, or the channel button, to bring up the guide. Now, neither work reliably. Using the channel button multiple times sometimes will work.

2. On another Samsung set with the Joey4, when I turn the TV off with the dish remote, it turns itself off, and then back on. I can only turn the TV off with the Samsung remote. I will see if using a different remote code may solve the issue.

Sounds a bit like my remote issue with my Hopper 3. I don't have any issues with my TV remote operation with my Pronto Pro however. My only issue is with my Hopper 3 IR side "going asleep".

This is the information that I provided to brittanygarden of Dish last night.

On Monday evening I used the Sofabaton X2 universal remote to shut down my system and everything shut down (LG TV, Denon AVR) with the lone exception being the Dish Hopper 3 which stayed turned 'On' with the power green LED light on. I came back 45 minutes later and the power green LED light was still on so I used the Sofabaton X2 universal remote and pressed the 'Power Off' button and the Hopper 3 power green LED light did not turn off. I waited a few seconds and pressed the 'Power Off' button again on the Sofabaton X2 universal remote and the power green LED light on the Dish Hopper 3 did turn off at this point.

This is exactly what I have been experiencing since the H711 upgrade on the Hopper 3. It is almost like the green power LED button on the Dish Hopper 3 gets stuck in an 'On' state and cannot be turned off or it is inconsistent when turning it off via the Sofabaton X2 universal remote which uses IR commands. Prior to the H711 firmware upgrade the Sofabaton X2 universal remote was able to 'Power On' and 'Power Off' the Dish Hopper 3 without any problems and that was for 5 months or so.

Another interesting point is that if I manually turn the power off on the Dish Hopper 3 by pressing the power button on the front panel of the Dish Hopper 3 the power green LED light will turn off. Then if I use the Sofabaton X2 universal remote to run a startup sequence everything, Dish Hopper 3 included, will turn on as it should. After this I can use the Sofabaton X2 universal remote to run a shutdown sequence and everything works as it should and shuts down including the Dish Hopper 3.

The problem seems to come when watching the Dish Hopper 3 then and using the OEM Dish remote which uses RF (I think) to send commands to the Dish Hopper 3. This works fine, but then later when I run a shutdown sequence using the Sofabaton X2 universal remote everything shuts down except for the Disher Hopper 3. For some reason it seems like the Dish Hopper 3 is getting confused and stuck when using the Dish OEM remote and then later when using the Sofabaton X2 universal remote to shut everything down.

Today, Tuesday, my wife had the Dish Hopper 3 go into 'Standby' on two separate occasions while she opened up the 'Guide' using the OEM Dish remote.

I, too, have had some weird responses from the remote usage. I'm using a 54 remote on an Hopper 3. Since the update, several times when I push the forward button while viewing a recording, it will go to live TV. I hit recall and it goes back to the recording.

Also, a few times I've pushed pause and it puts the Hopper in standby with screen saver. I push pause again and it turns back on and resumes the recording. I've had it also change inputs when I hit the Select button while watching a recording.

None of this is catastrophic, but can be annoying. Somebody been messing with the wrong stuff.

I solved the Samsung TV issue by changing the remote code to 60.
