DISH Hopper H 711 software version

That's what I thought as well. One way to know for sure if the signal is IR or not is to block the IR on the remote like press the buttons underneath a blanket or something and if it works, it's RF and if it doesn't, it's IR. For me, I can walk to the bathroom which is on the other side of the living room wall and the remote still works so it's RF.

Agreed, my OEM Dish remote version 54.1 is definitely RF as I can walk to the kitchen and completely block the remote and it still works with the Hopper 3 which is in the living room. The IR issue stems from the universal remotes (Sofabaton X2, Prontos, Harmonys, OFAs and others) which no longer work consistently with the Dish Hopper 3 where prior to the H711 upgrade my Sofabaton X2 worked perfectly.

I worked with brittanygarden and send her several PM's on what was happening on my end. I just sent her another fairly lengthy PM detailing the steps that I am using to reproduce the issue on my end. She has her engineering team looking into the issue.

As soon as I know more I will post in this thread.
I've dealt with beer in thr past and last I heard from.her was February for an issue thst still isn't resolved. Very frustrating as she's great at her job

Is that how you're "hearing" her?
I've dealt with her in the psst. Last time was August of 2025. She said this and how she fixed it
Your internal drive was over-archived. This can happen when there are too many files recorded over time. We just erased that archive!

I've been reaching out to her since February of 2026 as its not showing my recordings again with no luck of hearing from her. Very frustrating and thinking of leaving dish since I've been a member since 2012

Another issue with H711 and earlier version(s) is that there are times when a streaming channel has failed and going to another streaming channel will only show the DISH icon downloading but it never gets past that. The fix is to view a satellite channel first and then the streaming channels will work again. This is on a Hopper 3 (Software H711) with Hopper Plus (Software P15317).

I haven't heard back from brittanygarden this week regarding the issue with the H711 software. It is my understanding that she is back in the office as of Tuesday, Sept. 15. I sent her the following information in an attempt to assist with troubleshooting this issue.

If this issue cannot get corrected fairly soon is it possible for me to be let out of my Dish contract? My Dish contract expires at the end of January 2027.

It has gotten to the point where it is past being an annoyance as my wife is constantly letting me know tha the Dish Hopper 3 either doesn't turn on/off via the Sofabaton X2 universal remote (which used to work perfectly for 5 months) or it goes into a 'Standby' mode seemingly randomly while using the OEM Dish remote.

As an example, just this morning the Dish Hopper 3 was completely shut off with the green light off, however it would not respond to any IR commands from my Sofabaton X2 universal remote. I manually pushed the 'Power' button on the front panel of the Dish Hopper 3 to turn it on and then waited 5 seconds or so and manually pushed the 'Power' button again to turn the Dish Hopper 3 off. Both button presses worked as expected.

After doing this the Dish Hopper 3 was now able to respond to IR commands from the Sofabaton X2 universal remote. I ran my 'Startup' sequence via the Sofabaton X2 universal remote which turns on the Dish Hopper 3, LG smart TV and Denon AVR and everything turned on and the inputs were set correctly on the LG TV and the Denon AVR. In short everything worked perfectly.

At this point I let it sit for 5 minutes with everything working perfectly and then I ran the 'Shutdown' sequence via the Sofabaton X2 universal remote and everything shut down as it should. So I ran another 'Startup' sequence using the Sofabaton X2 universal remote and everything worked perfectly again via IR. At this point I began using the OEM Dish remote to change channels, display the channel guide, select other channels for viewing and used the OEM Dish remote as I would for normal viewing.

Here is where the issue manifests itself. At this point the Dish Hopper 3 will not respond to IR commands anymore. When I run any IR command to either start or shutdown the Dish Hopper 3 they are now ignored. This has been the case since firmware version H711 was installed on my Dish Hopper 3. In my amateur opinion somehow using the OEM Dish remote jams up the ability of the Dish Hopper 3 to receive and interpret IR codes.

If it is not possible to get this fixed from Dish's end I would appreciate it if Dish would let me out of the remainder of my contract which is roughly 4 months. I have been a Dish customer for over 8.5 years and my wife and I really like it, but I will not continue to be a subscriber if this doesn't get corrected.

I am available 24/7 for troubleshooting and you or your development team are welcome to contact me directly via cell or email if you need more information.

Thanks.

Without digging are any of you having audio issues also since the H711 update? At least once a day and more on some days the audio cuts out and will only come back on if I change a channel.

That has always been an issue to some degree for me, but it is infrequent enough where I just accept it. It is nothing like the frequency of the issues that are occurring since the H711 upgrade with regards to IR codes being ignored by the Hopper 3 and the Hopper 3 magically going into 'Standby' mode at times.

Since H711, I get occasional video and audio breakup (simultaneously), but it is infrequent enough that it has not been something I thought about mentioning.

The IR remote issue with my Pronto Pro, which has never happened before with my Hopper 3 prior to H711, nor with any Dish receiver I've had prior to getting the Hopper 3 several years ago, is my big issue. I would honestly like this issue resolved so that my Pronto Pro works the first time, every time, with my Hopper 3. Just like it used to prior to the H711 firmware update.

100 percent this ^^^. This is a show stopper for me and needs to be fixed.

Please send me a PM with your RCAID. Thank you.

Last night I was using the OEM dish remote and pressed the 'Recall' button which normally displays the last 6 channels viewed on the bottom of the screen.

This time the Dish Hopper 3 green power light shut off and went into standby with the small rectangular box that says 'Press SAT to watch Dish' bouncing around the screen. I pressed the 'Select' button and everything started working normally again.

So there are really two issues at play. The first issue is that IR codes are not being interpreted by the Dish Hopper 3 consistently and the second is that the Dish Hopper 3 goes into a 'Standby' status seemingly randomly while using the OEM Dish remote.

I have forwarded this information along to brittanygarden so that it will give her support team some additional examples to work with while troubleshooting this issue.

I have read from some users on here where they have to periodically press a button on their IR universal remote to keep the IR receiver active on the Dish Hopper 3 so that it works with IR. I can duplicate a similar issue with my Dish Hopper 3 and my Sofabaton X2 universal remote.

Whenever I shutdown my system after using the OEM Dish remote my Sofabaton X2 universal remote will successfully shut down my LG TV and my Denon AVR. However the Dish Hopper 3 does not shut down, but if I press the 'Power Off' button on the Sofabaton X2 universal remote several times (8-9-ish times) then it seems to wake up the IR receiver on the Dish Hopper 3 and it does turn off.

We have all observed that there is a problem with the IR code reception and processing on the Dish Hopper 3 since the H711 firmware upgrade, but at least now I can consistently shut it off via 8-9-ish button presses on my Sofabaton X2 universal remote. Hopefully this will aid the Dish technical support team in their quest to fix this issue.
