Having Dish installed (722) on Monday (through Dishstore.net), and they asked about having the installer put up an OTA antenna for $50. He gave me the model no. of winegard antenna (GS1100), but I thought he also said I could get "silver sensar" for this same price (is that a different model?). I didn't have a lot of confidence in the guy I spoke with, since he told me their "high def" antenna would pick up signals from New York and California, even though I am in Cincinnati!!! (I guess that would be true if I were in NY or CA).

My antennaweb info (for zip 45002) is as follows:

red - vhf WLWT 5 NBC CINCINNATI OH 116° 12.2 5
red - vhf WKRC 12 CBS CINCINNATI OH 116° 13.4 12
red - uhf WXIX 19 FOX NEWPORT KY 119° 11.0 19
red - vhf WCPO 9 ABC CINCINNATI OH 114° 13.4 9
* blue - vhf WCPO-DT 9.1 ABC CINCINNATI OH 114° 13.4 10
blue - uhf WCET 48 PBS CINCINNATI OH 116° 12.2 48
blue - uhf WSTR 64 MNT CINCINNATI OH 91° 11.4 64
* violet - uhf WXIX-DT 19.1 FOX NEWPORT KY 119° 11.0 29
violet - uhf WKOI 43 TBN RICHMOND IN 18° 22.9 43
* violet - uhf WKRC-DT 12.1 CBS CINCINNATI OH 116° 13.4 31
* violet - uhf WLWT-DT 5.1 NBC CINCINNATI OH 116° 12.2 35

As you can see, I am about 10-15 miles from stations I care about (networks), and most are within a few degrees directionally.

My coax I assume will be diplexed/combined into a single cable, which will run approx. 50' to an 8-way whole house splitter, which will send the feed another 25 feet to the 722 and to one other HDTV.

Anyone have thoughts whether the two "standard" Dish-installed antenna would suffice for these locals (which are combined uhf/vhf). I understand there are "better" antenna available, but for the price and installation, if these will work, I'm gonna go with it. Thanks.

Being that you're only 10-15 miles away from the towers, I would try the Silver Sensor if that doesn't work then you could have an external antenna. Now, $50.00 for an external antenna installation is not that bad either.

The GS1100 is not likely to work at all. A Silver Sensor is not designed to receive "Violet" stations. The Silver Sensor is not that good as a VHF antenna, and your only "Blue" station is VHF channel 10.

Try the HD7080P instead. Plan on a preamp. Skip the diplexors, run a separate wire for the TV antenna.

ssmaniac maybe only about 10 miles away from the antennas the antennaweb color coding is showing correct i know that area there are large hills there.
