Dish online false advertisement

Problem is, Dish probably does have to pay content providers for those PPVs. They have a glitch, but that does not mean that customers should have a right to game the system. Give people a refund once, then explain the situation. They should fix the glitch, but that may take time.

Wrong. If it says FREE, then it's FREE. If it's not FREE, then take the system down until it's fixed. It's Dish's problem, not the consumers.

This may get into some contract issues. If it states that the movie is free and a consumer in good faith orders the movie based on this statement from Dish, for them to then charge the consumer for the movie, at least in my humble opinion is FRAUD.

Simply put, if they say it's free, it is free. If they need to take the system down to fix it then do so.

Thats one of the reasons I do not have auto-pay nor do I order PPV movies from them-DISH is famious for telling the customers one thing and doing someting else.

Sorry if I've just offended someone, just relaying my 11+ years experience with DISH.

Have a good one. :hatsoff:

I don't see them taking it down. They've got a GREAT system in place ! A movie says it's free so a customer orders it. When they discover it actually cost them money, they're SOL. As noted above, if a Dish employee gives them a credit, they get reprimanded.

So if a customer is charged for a VOD movie that is marked "FREE" it is the customer's fault for trusting Dish. :shocked

I'm going to add that to my list of the "Biggest Dish Lies of All Time", right next to "Dish is really fighting to keep your costs down (but pay no attention to the $17 DVR fee)."

BTW, I have used "Free PPV" coupons twice, and each time it was a fight with Dish to actually credit my account. They must truly think their customers are a bunch of rubes / suckers.

I'm with Yaz on this one. DISH is a big corporation. They are big boys. If they make a mistake, pony up and pay. Then, fix the damn system. This is not even remotely a question of gaming the system. It say FREE, it should be free.

I consider my self to be a DISH fanboy and I readily admit it, but I can't imagine people taking DISH's side on this one.

I don't think anyone is siding with Dish here... At first, there was some confusion or doubt about the menus/screens but no more. Then we have a Dish employee (Tulsa Agent) say it's a known glitch and employees get in trouble for issuing a credit...  What would be GREAT is to see this warning in writing but I suspect this kind of thing is only communicated verbally.

Yeah, they fooled me once but it wasn't quite the same flavor of fraud that started this thread. After many years with Dish and without a single spurious VOD charge, all of a sudden I got charged for some porn that nobody had ordered. This happened after the spawn of the devil bug-riddled Channel 1 VOD crap was added to our firmware. So I asked a CSR to set my account's PPV credit limit to zero. Problem solved permanently. I can still download free stuff off DishOnline, but I haven't actually tried one of these so-called "free" PPV movies.

if i told dish i was going to pay the bill, but i didnt because my hand had a glitch writing the check, then i guess they should understand the situation and give me a pass on the bill and understand it might take time to work the glitch outta my hand?

probably not, they would cut your service off and not understand. what they should be doing is taking the cost they pay to the programmers out the executives bonus's.

it is a glitch. customers are getting charged and no reversal of it is allowed. any agent who reverses ppv charges may receive disciplinary action. we can gladly send you two free ppv movie coupons, but what customer would trust a free ppv coupon after getting hosed? fool me once....

You're alleging that, as a matter of policy, a Fortune 300 company is requiring employees to knowingly break the law as a condition of employment. That's a pretty inculpatory and implausible statement, and you probably haven't reported it yet.

I had never had a PPV charge until they did this crap. Now I have had 3 of them, I even have the PPV channels locked and somehow my 5 year old has managed to rent three of them.

I have not found a good solution to this problem, well I guess I have now. Cable is being installed on Monday so no more dish for me.

can't lock channel 1 and have it stick. just have them make your PPV limit $0.00 and that will solve the problem.

Set a PIN. If your 5-year old doesn't know the number, nothing will get ordered.

break the law? what law is being broken?

You can't circumvent honoring an advertised price for a service just by giving out more services. They can offer PPV coupons, but if that offer is refused, they have to credit the account.
My guess is TA is just being disgruntled again, and either misinterpreting or embellishing the directives handed down by his/her management team.

It really blows my mind that someone could side with Dish in this situation. As far as I'm concerned, it's theft. They're stealing my money. You can't tell someone something's free, and then turn around and charge them. If Dish owes the content providers, then Dish can pay them themselves. I'm not the one that offered it free of charge.

The unfortunate thing is, Dish can sit there and deny that there was an issue. They'll just accuse the customer of lying to get a free movie and we can't do a thing about it.

Sounds like it to me too.... In the past, he would normally defend the company and not provide info like this.
