Dish Satellite now under 5 Million subscribers/Sling under 2 Million.

I've noticed TV ads for Starlink, notably featuring Arthur C. Clarke speaking about sat comms in future shrinking the globe. So he advertises this but not his cars

Why would Musk even want them?

Why would anyone pay anything for two providers that lose a million or more subscribers every year each?
Maybe Elon thinks satellite TV will do a come back. I bet he has a Hopper 3 and loves it. Apps keep going up on prices and you need more than one app to see everything you want to see. I think Satellite is the way to go.

And so does Satellite/ Cable TV, but it is still a lot less expensive with the streaming services, along with a lot more new content and the better video/sound quality.

and you need more than one app to see everything you want to see. I think Satellite is the way to go.
Why is that a big deal?

In today's world, you still need multiple services to watch new content, for example, even if you have Dish, you still need Paramount+ to watch Landman, Dutton, Star Trek, etc, etc.

I'm surprised Dish still has that many subscribers. I don't know a single person in my area that is still with them after getting either Starlink or fiber at their home. They all cancelled Dish and went with streaming. I used to get offers pretty regularly in the mail to come back to Dish, but no more. Haven't seen one in a couple of years now.
After 26+ years I'll be leaving dish at the end of this summer.
Contract ran out, promo ran out they jacked my price sky high and I refuse to sign another contract so I told em that they put my price back where I was for 6months which gave me time to think and just say hell with it.
I'll flip over to YT TV basic stuff prob and I'm going to setup a small system to access movies and other programming from free sources online which will fill my needs.
The only thing with YT TV I want to make sure I have is ESPN channels/locals for football season. I'm not close enough to get OTA decent signals to towers for my locals but I can find streaming alternatives for them if need be.
Dish just constantly jacking prices up when they won't stay firm on disputes and tell these channels/programmers to pound sand is why. We didn't have CBS for a while cause of the Gray dispute but ya know what I didn't miss it and I found other ways to get what I needed off that channel free, great quality and no issues.

Dish has forgotten that those that want to watch things now know other ways to get them and don't want a month to month sub besides internet which you need for everything else already.
So when I call to cancel I'll be really interested to hear what retention garbage they try to feed me because unless they keep me where I'm at with programming and drop my bill under $100/month AND for a locked in 3-5 year period I'm gone.
See ya!

Under $100/month and you want locals (now $14/mo) and movies? I have one movie package now (Starz/Encore, at $5/mo until mid-July) and locals, and ESPN channels and I'm at $186/month. I've been with Dish for about 20 years. I've looked at YTTV as well and can get what I have now for about $84/mo, minus a few channels that I like, but can add to AP fairly inexpensively...

I understand your frustration. Like I posted earlier, it's almost like they're pushing me away...

And both of you two are the reason why I don't see a future for satellite TV in its present form. Because you can get much of what you want for so much less now and with streaming most have DVRS for FREE. Even Sling TV still charges at least $5.00 for its DVR and its streaming. What's up with that?

FEES have always bugged most subscribers. DISH seems to rely on them for their profit margins. I mean $15.00 DVR FEE and a $7.00 additional receiver FEE and you can spend some money on just those with the Hopper and the joeys. Why not offer people the ability to buy their joeys and plus units either out right or by a lease to own model and then they own them and no more of those FEES. Then the DVR fee could be reduced to $5.00 or done away with entirely.

The programming is the other thing now days. Most of those cable like channels are just showing perpetual reruns from network TV either recently or years ago. This model is still set up for when having extra channels was the thing everyone wanted - like in the 90s. You can get all those reruns using Pluto or other free apps.

I just don't see this same subscription model holding out that much longer. Your elderly customers is what makes up the satellite subscribers and those in the country with no streaming broadband options. Once they die out that's it. Because younger people aren't even looking at TV the way we did in the 90s.

how much longer will streaming be affordable as it's been getting price hikes like everything else

have you tried calling in more than once and getting different reps??? that might work!!! we pay under 84.00 a month for the top 120. dish waived our hopper dvr fee and the fee's for our 2 joeys and we use the ota dongle for locals so no need to waste money on them. we also use the dish anywhere app with an apple t.v. with starlink.

Is Cable/Satellite TV affordable since it also has those price hikes?

And it is not just about pricing with streaming services, it is also about content, where the vast majority of new scripted content is, not just the exclusives, but the same content from Broadcast/Cable channels.

Paid Live TV has become the vast wasteland of reruns, where that content is available for free on the Pluto TV type services.

What cable & sat now primarily market is convenience. Not having to go, find & navigate disparate online offerings. Not needing to have the modern-tech mindset that helps to push through that without frustrations. The now know they're likely to lose those who are amenable to streaming- it's those who aren't they're counting on as ongoing subscribers.

To address your question, Yes, YTTV will have your ESPN games ...
Now if your looking for the off the wall College, you might need to look at the ESPN Unlimited, however, YTTV subs were advised that we will have them this fall, so, well see.

If you want Low prices on dish you have to buy the Dish antenna 1000 plus biggest antenna so you will never loose signal and the receiver from dish install your self not rocket science.

Hi, First time posting on this forum. Dish customer since 1998. The best way to install the dish is a non penetrating mount with 6 blocks total weight 180 pounds. Always use dish1000 plus antenna if you can get it on ebay etc. The biggest dish looking at 110/118/119 since 129 location is gone. Signal stength is 80 on 119 and 110 here in Minnesota. eastern arc is weaker.62 and 71 orbital location. I have americas 250 local channels i get it via outside antenna free. Total cost with tax $105 .since i am legacy customer they give me $25 off for 1 year. I have vip 211k since i own my reciever and also I have Hopper also purchased from dish, I dont use it. streaming from youtube etc is slow not for me, You cant get americas 250 from any so called streming company.
DISH NETWORK IS THE BEST. In the late 80s I had ECHOSTAR C-BAND system with Echostar receiver.

Got some sad news to share. Claude Greiner died yesterday
