I got caught "moving" today. I called in because I received a bill in the mail for a receiver I didn't order. After I ordered a remote 2 weeks ago (which i forgot about) I "moved" to receive local channels (which i also forgot about). Well when I called to ask about the receiver bill they asked to confirm my sub address and voila they took my locals away I got pissed demanded they change it back she said she couldn't, I asked to speak to a supervisor, told him that he should change it back, he told me he wouldn't, I told him to turn off my service and I wouldn't pay a dime of my disconnect or bill and he said he would turn it over to collections and I told him I wouldn't pay collections either. He told me it would go on my credit I said fine.

Moral of the story don't get caught "moving" Directv will nail you to the cross!!!!

I really do feel for people without any decent locals or in odd DMA situations that cause them viewing issues (if you have ever read any of my past posts you know how I HATE the ancient, BS DMA system we are still forced to live under in this day; I nearly despise the NAB and many stubborn affiliates) however, I am not 100% sure of your approach or even what ground you made such a stand on regarding this subject toward the DBS provider?

Movers are technically breaking the rules/law and should really just take it with a grain of salt with their DBS companies and feel lucky the don't turn you in to law enforcement of some sort for fraud or cancel your account on their end. You should spend all that energy complaining to your local congress reps and the FCC to help illicit and change of the BS system we have now. The DBS companies are only doing what they are told, they don't make the rules. And in reality, a bunch of "mover" might just screw the rest of legit users. So you really should be trying to find a totally legit way to get your programming and soften your mis-placed harsh stance vs the DBS providers. IMHO.

It is really a shame so many people have forgotten how to use a TV antenna. I have only CBS and NBC affiliates in my DMA but by using a TV antenna I can add about another 20 digital channels that are clearer than my satellite delivered channels. I don't have to pay a monthly subscription fee for them either.

You are very correct Boba, but I will say in their defense; there really is a good percentage of users where an OTA antenna is just not a quality option. As crazy as it sounds, but I do know many that fall into this catagory.

However, my GUESS is that the majority of "movers" just simply are using the system because they don't want to use OTA in any way, even though they can. They don't like the "look" or they think it will be trouble to setup or provide a bad image, or they just simply want to cheat to get a different DMA than what they actually reside in. These are the ones I feal are going to get the rest of us screwed.

they mark everyone who gets caught "movings" account so they can't "move" ever again. even if it is legal. Plus i already cancelled my account and told them I have no plans of paying them a dime on my bill or cancellation fees. On the other hand I now have a DVR that is completely useless with about 80 hours of recordings on it I can't watch that really pisses me off since I paid $100 for it last november.

Hey V, you don't think that anyone "caught" will from that point forward have their accounts "marked"? Maybe prompting further actions?

I am being a bit nosey to learn, but was your move legit? What leg are you going to stand on in fighting their charges against you money-wise? Why risk your credit if you were "skirting the rules". If you in any way gave them a EULA violation to hang on you, you are cooked and should just pay what you rightfully owe to get out, or maybe keep your account and work with them. I really am NOT trying to bash here, just trying to learn your situation and help figure it out. Are you just trying to get out of a DirecTV contract or something?

I also told them about everyone else "moving" and he said they are stopping everyone from "moving". In other words if your billing and physical address don't match they won't let the move go through apparently from now on because of the echostar fiasco.

Honestly Mike, "moving" is breaking the law so you don't have a whole lot of recource. I have "moved" myself in the past so I personally don't feel it's all that wrong but it is illegal.

Why would they want to risk losing any major programming to all users? So you are saying based on your situation, they are wanting they billing and service address to match?

no based on the lawsuit going on with echostar they want all billing and service addresses to match from what i understand. Apparently they didn't care before but now with echostar's lawsuit they DO care.

All of this is good reason to go to Savemychannels--- call congress beginning of next week when they are back in session to support distant network options for Rvers. truckers, and freedom of choice. Dish Network folks will be doing a big push then also-- so timing might be right to get the law written in a way that makes sense.

Charper1 is correct. When you live out in the middle of nowhere and your sorry A local networks won't give you a waiver nor will they get off of their dead A's and start providing HD digital then we don't have many choices. I have the best rooftop antenna money can buy and had it professionally installed and still can't get a sniff of a HD signal. Fortunately for me I "moved" and then "moved" back again and my waivers are still working. I don't expect my area to have HD locals via D* until the end of '07 at the earliest. No HD RSNs either.

Think ulterior motive...

Let's say that when the cut-off occurs by 1 December, FOX takes the list of subscribers to distant networks and the list of subscribers that now watch FOX out of New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago and Denver.

If FOX starts comparing the lists and finds quite a few people that have "moved", do you think FOX might try to go back to court to stop Dish Network subscribers from "moving"?

How can they complain about movers when not to long ago they were starting to talk about offering "Significantly Viewed Channels", wouldn't that amount to the same thing in a lot of cases ???

I have not moved, but I am trying to figure out how to move 500 ft so I can get my Fox Sports Detroit in HD, I get it in SD but am not allowed to get the HD...

so I guess anyone who uses a PO Box for a mailing address is going to get cut off? Highly doubt it

There are areas (my uncle lives in one) where if you live in town, you AUTOMATICALLY have a PO Box. There is no in town mail. If I want to send him something USPS, it goes to PO Box XXX. If I fedex, ups, etc it goes to the house.
