When you hook this up does the receiver show video when its not connected to a satellite cause im trying to verify if the unit works by powering it on and connecting the receivers sdtv bnc connector to the tv input.

Find the setting for "OSD" in the front panel menu. Switch it to on, and the unit should then show graphics on the screen for various functions.
