I was looking at the channel listings in the DISH site and saw that several channels, National Geographic; DIY, are mirrored on the same sattelite at two different channels. What's the point of that? If the channel is already on one channel why show it on the same sattelite at a different channel? That seems like a waste of bandwidth to me.

Duplicate channel numbers does not equal duplicate bandwidth.
They duplicate channel numbers to group them in perspective packages.
What you're talking about is the English channels that are mirrored in the 800s to be provided to Dish Latino subs so that all there channels are close in range
