Echostar 14 update

If the markets are on 119 now, then they will be on E-14.

This sucks for a "mover" like me. I presume the spotbeam technology on the new bird will allow for a more tightly focused beam reducing the footprint which means no more Miami tv even with my 1 meter dish. :(

Yep, tighter beams, and more uplink beams = more efficient spotbeam utilization, in turn meaning more bandwidth for locals.

Check the link near the top of the page called "SatMaps".

Many of the E*14 spot beams are less tightly focused than the E*7 ones.

I found them to be quite the opposite except for the regional beam ones which in some cases these beams can not be active while others are since they utilize the same uplink and/or downlink frequencies. E7 had some huge beams compared to E14, E14 is more in line with the beam sizes you see on E10 and Ciel2.

Well with my luck I am going to expect the worst. All I can do is wait till the bird is up and active to see if I will have to "move" back to J-ville.

3/5/2010 Breeze Fueling Complete

Now they start bolting the various sections together.

"At the Baikonur Cosmodrome continue intensive work in the campaign launch by a Proton-M / Briz-M "/ EchoStar-14.

Today, in the middle of the day filling station site 31 cosmodrome successfully completed refueling propellant components and compressed gases, high pressure tanks of Briz-M ".

Now specialists cosmodrome preparing to return transport block in the assembly and test building site 92A-50 launch site, where preparing for start-up will continue. "

Sorry if this is a dumb question but who is launching the satellite? I was unable to find it on sea launch. Another question the locals that will be on the spotbeams will they be sd or hd?

They are going to be doing some swaps in preperation for Echostar 14...

On 3/17/10 at 1AM MST there will be a CONUS transfer on 119 in order to prepare for the launch of ECHO 14 which will also reside at 119 orbital. The plan is to swap transponders 2 and 10. Also, transponders 4 and 11 will be swapped.

Whats interesting is one of the transponders they are moving (Transponder 10 to 2) holds 7 HD test channels (TMP 58 - 64) I forgot about those HD test channels being there. They are preping them (or moving them) for something.

I am not sure what moving them in preperation for launch of Echostar 14 means, since its going to be awhile after launch before the satellite is at 119.

Well, TPs 1-5 on E14 will be spots, so those need to be cleared. I'm guessing what is currently on 10 and 11 will be moved to fully clear the future 2 and 4. Given 10 already has stuff that can be gotten rid of (TMP channels), it was probably a good candidate.

HDRoberts appears to know something. There are already a bunch of mostly 8PSK spotbeam "UP" test channels on tp2 which will probably go live on Echo14 when it's there. 10 has nothing on it now but another "UP" test channel, so obviously the conus stuff currently on tp2 will move there. The List! also shows 13 more "UP" spotbeam test channels on tp4, so those too will likely go live on Echo 14. But tp11 is currently loaded. I don't see how they can move that down to 4 and then go live on the spotbeams when Echo14 is there. I guess conus channels on tp11, after moving to 4 for no apparent reason, will eventually go elsewhere before they're done shuffling.

Unless I have gone suddenly blind, according to The List!, there is only one channel "UP4" on 119 tp10.

Currently E7 as 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 as spotbeams. They will basically shift these to 1-5. This will have them only using part of the beams that E14 offers, but it will offer them much more since E7 was only uplinked by two uplink centers and E14 is uplinked by 5.

They'll probably be able to clear the last of the locals that are CONUS on 110/119.

I am not sure exactly what you are saying here...

You said there was a rumor about E7 being taken out of service. I was stating there was no rumor of that, since it's already been known that E14 is taking it's place. You also said they were taking the HD locals off of E7, yes they are, but they are going to E14. I was confused at what you were getting at...

E14 will basically be a direct swap of E7, but add additional beams.

So, Digi... Are you saying that none of E7 will be used and it will sit as possibly a backup bird or will they use a combination of E7 & E14 at 119 to get the job done?
