What's the latest on Echostar 15? Is all going well? Where are we in it's timeline for being on-line and broadcasting?
I don't know about other members here, but watching the launch and seeing some background on these satellites I fine truly amazing! Maybe 'cause I'm a child of the '60s, but I'd always been fascinated by what we can do in space travel, satellites, etc.:D

According to digiblur, in-orbit testing has begun on E-15. 8/3 is the date to start watching the TP's at 61.5.

Question for those in the know. Are there certain tp's we should take special notice of? I stared at each tp for about 15 seconds and I am showing the range on the signal meter.

A handful of TP's will transition on 8/3 early in the morning (watch for Off Air in the guide). And another on 8/5. I was told this a week or two ago...schedules might change.

Granted the requested temporary FCC licenses to communicate with 4 ground stations today so they are good to go when ready.

Do somebody (maybe Scott) know what kind of programming Echostar 15 will carry? I thought it would be mostly HD. But then I saw this info from Dish:

Dear DISH Network® Retailer,
In an effort to help us simplify our installations and launch more HD content, earlier this year we began preparations for
migrating HD “core programming,” HD premium movie programming, HD Pay-Per-View (PPV) and HD Video On Demand (VOD) content from the 61.5° orbital location to the 129° and 72.7° orbital locations. This HD content is currently being simulcast from all three of these orbital locations.

What does this mean? What do they plan to transmit from 61.5º then?

HD Locals, RSNs, possibly some internationals still.

National programming only. Could be SD or could be HD.

I suspicion that they might temporarily mirror some of the EA CONUS stuff to patch things up with the 61.5W wing dish people until they can get them converted to EA.

The EA is still a work in progress. Echo 16 is about a year away and I think it is also intended for 61.5 with a ton of spot beam capability. I think we will just have to wait and see what happens. It may take another year or so to see what the completed EA will look like.

I like all this talk about adding 2 additional new birds to the eastern arc,I plan to be connected to Dishnetworks EA for the foreseeable future,The new high powered E15 bird should go online any day now at 61.5

I've been on the eastern arc for 6 months now and the service has been for the most part excellent, looking forward to the extra power and capacity.:)

Remember..... tonight is the night the first phase of transponders are supposed to go to E15. Anyone notice any Off Air's scheduled for tonight?

--- i noticed some HD channels and other international channels that are scheduled to go off-air from 3:00AM to 4:00AM tonight - some are NTGEO (9429), A&E (9419), ESPN2 (9425), etc ---

All that I'm seeing.

Max-E, HGTV, FOOD, TOON, Starz, CNN, Travel, The Weather Channel, CNBC, ESPN2, NFL, Universal, Nat Geo, A&E, MGM, SHO Comedy, Action Max, TBS, & History. These are all that I'm seeing in the All Chan menu and they are all the HD versions.
