Excel protected problem

I was provided an Excel spreadsheet to work up. However, I have discovered it is password protected and I can't get the PW over the weekend, and must do the work this weekend.

I thought I could just save it under another name and go from there, but no joy.

Is there a way to make an unprotected copy of the spreadsheet so I can work on it?

Don't use Excel? But I don't think there are that many viable options to Excel these days.
