First three numbers in the R00

I have noticed the first three numbers of the R00 for a receiver seems to coincide with the year it was manufactured. IE... we had R008, then R009, now all the new VIP models are R010. Am I on to something, or just blowing smoke up my own ars? Today I had a 522 with R006, and a 322 with R007.

nope, because R010 comes after R009. They are simply running out of numbers!

I remember with the early smart cards they used to be S0000, and then it went to 3 zeros, 2 zeros and now its S19

I feel its just sequential. I got my 612 back in the summer of 2008, yet the number starts with R009

The Senior tech in our house says the same thing. He said he had receivers with R019 before.

Well in a few years when everything is 8PSK MPEG-4 they can reuse all those old numbers because the old receivers won't work anymore.
