They do. All the HD DVRs can be plugged in to your home network/Internet via ethernet. Updates are also happening to do the same thing on the non-DVR HD receivers. The latest SD DVR (R22) also is ethernet capable.

yep, my receivers are never connected via telephone landline

Plus you have options to use a VOIP or Wireless Phone Jacks
