I didn't play the first one.. though I was considering getting this one.. the first looked interesting even though it's not really my type of game (rpg/strategy vs. 1st person shooter)
You should rent the first one and then play the 2nd one when it comes out.
At least you will know the whole storyline.
The first one was awesome...people talking about the graphics for 5 months non stop about the game.
GoW was one of the most fun games I've played in a long time.
GoW2 is going to be more amazing.
The creators did a great job and I have a feeling this will be the game of the year.
Renting GoW 1 for the storyline is like renting the first movie in a porno series. The storyline of GoW isn't quite like Metal Gear Solid, where missing one game can really leave you confused. Play GoW because it honestly is one of the greatest games ever made. Don't feel though that you can't play GoW 2 before you play the first one. Here's the basic story (no spoilers): Earth is invaded by a bunch of aliens for what seems to be no reason whatsoever. They're ravaging the earth, and its up to a bunch of hard-ass marines to make things right. That's basically the plot.
All that aside, I am looking VERY forward to this game. I wanted to wait until Xmas to get this, but I don't think I can wait that long. I just got my new audio receiver to go along with my new Panny, and I am looking to be shocked and awed by this thing. I don't think that'll be hard to achieve.
I will miss this game VERY much, this and halo 3...but sadly I sold my xbox 360 to help pay for some suprise bills...anyone want to send a 360 ? actually if anyone hasnt played gears I STRONGLY recommend it, one of the best multiplayer games I have played.

They had an HD Commercial during the Pats / Colts game the other night... looked pretty cool... I can put up some caps if wanted...
Really? I didn't care for the multiplayer at all. 2 player coop was okay, but MP seemed to lag behind COD, Graw, and Rainbow 6. I've heard they've done a much better job with multiplayer in 2. We'll see....
GoW MP was great for small MP 4v4 match, I think it could have been better, but it kept me busy for 4-5 months.
Usually I don't play online a game for more than 2 months on a console, however GoW was different..never got tired of it even though I sucked big time.
GoW2 will be better, graphics are just going to be amazing, I can't wait for it.
I like the halo series, Gears of war, Call of duty (didnt play that much) and Socom and Warhawk.

They've said that this is a trilogy story. Also from what I've heard about the ending, they said that it pretty much leaves it that there will be a sequel, although not as abruptly and disappointing as Halo 2 did.
I think I'm stopping by Walmart or Target or GS tomorrow after work to pick this up. I need a break from music games and standard beat-em ups and get into some hardcore killing. I'm REALLY looking forward to the Horde mode and the ability to play with bots in multiplayer. The amount of tweens and jerk-offs I had to deal with playing GoW multiplayer make this a welcome alternative.

Picked up a copy from Gamestop on the way home from work. I forgot how much fun these games are to play. The satisfaction of the chainsaw and stomping the heads of opponents makes it just that much more fun. I need to beat the campaign before I delve into multiplayer online, as I don't want to go in there and not know how everything works.
