get HD channels in better

going to try and find my extra set of RCA cable and try that the install didn't leave my anything and even charged my $20 for the HDMI cable and dish network says some installers do that and refused to give credit for it.

just hooked up the RCA cables and that makes a difference the picturre is better. Does that mean the HDMI port on the reciever is bad?

I am not sure, it could be the TV, the box, or the cable. I would try a new HDMI cable (try monoprice.com for componet or HDMI.).

If the receiver HDMI port was bad, you would not get a signal. The TV must have a configuration setting that is not correct for HDMI.

If you have a set of Red Green Blue (conponent video) cables laying around that would be better then RCA cables. Until the new HDMI cable comes in. Also alot of new TV's do a great job of upconverting SD. it could make them alost looks as good as HD if the upconverting on the TV is real good.

Out of curiosity, why are RGB cables better than YRW? They are both RCA cables. Are they shielded better?

RGB are for High Def component video outputs whereas YRW are for sd composite outputs.

I think what he was saying though was that other than the color of the connectors, they are the same cables. As far as I know, there is no difference other than color.

I have a dish 1000 and a vip722 reciever and my HD channels don't come in any better than the other channels. Any ideas on how to get them in better? Right now the dish is pointing at 129 with a signal of about 43. A tech came out Monday and just looked at my tv screen and said "nothing wrong" didn't bother to change the channels or anything.

I don't think there is anything that needs to be changed. I have the same experience. The only difference I've ever really seen, is that HD programs fill my screen, SD programs don't. And that's onlly true if they are broadcasting a true HD program.

I have a 50+" TV and beyond 10' there is no noticable difference in PQ. Since my media room is so big now, I see no difference in PQ.

gb7102-- We had E* installed last Sunday, we are in Massanutten VA, we had an EA(Eastern Arc)install, something is wrong with your set-up if you do not notice a difference in PQ between HD and SD. I have heard that others have had stb's with bad HDMI ports but I think that they were refering to 211 stb's. I'd call and see if you can get an EA install instead of the 129. Thats what they(E*) tried to do when they came out the first time, the installer didn't even have the right equipment, when the second installer called to confirm that we would be here, I asked if his was coming to do a 110-119, he said yeah, said that I wanted a EA instead, he hadn't left the shop yet so he just got different equipment and came and did an EA instead

In the good or better RGB cables, the wires are actually RG6 and not just 28AWG stranded wire. That heavy guage wire in RG6 will give you better performance for your analog signal being carried over the cable.
At 6 feet or less and 1080i you probably won't notice much if any difference between the two. At longer distances and higher bandwidth requirements you will see a difference.

Something that may make a huge difference to anyone that can't tell SD from HD is an eye exam. To anyone that thinks I am being a smart@$$; I am not the first to recommend this. If life is unclear than your HD will be too.

There is something that needed to be changed for sure. If one is not able to tell the difference between SD and HD, something is wrong in the process. It would even be more true in your case than his (larger tv will show the sd defects more)

I know , I have a ton of YRW cables in boxes, I use all the time in place of regular component cables. Be glad when I have used them all up They are a cheap alternative when people want me to come hook up components for them.

I am an eye doctor and you would not believe the number of people I have seen who have purchased HDTV's because "their old TV was going bad and getting blurry." Then the HDTV was blurry because it was hooked to an SD system, so they upgrade to HD. Then that is blurry too. Eventually, they come in, find out they need glasses, and everything amazingly looks great!!!! Even had one guy come back and tell me he hooked his old "blurry" TV back up and it looked very clear as well!
