I received the same exact response about a week ago...from D*. Hopefully this "other department" will come through...

I sent a similar e- mail 5/20/05 and I am still waiting for a response.

Hi guys, I will not pay for ST this year. In fact I have cut some of my services. This whole hd thing is getting out of hand and I will not pay extra for what we recieved last year. Ap.

I called customer retention today about the huge price increase for HD games and the guy I talked to said the NFL sets the price. I've had Sunday Ticket for the last 10 years and he was willing to pay the first payment for me. I told them their pricing is still too high and no thanks.

Sorry, but i don't buy that, D* is just trying to recoup the excess money they spent to keep the ticket in house to 2010 and pass some of the expense of all 4 sats.

Well, I filled out the petition today. Then called D* and cancelled ST. I have had ST since the first year D* offered it. The CSR asked me why I wanted to cancel and I told her the price increase foremost and secondly most of the Rams and Chiefs games were blacked out last year. I can't see any reason to pay more money to not watch the teams I had originally ordered ST for in the first place.

I just called and canceled my ST. I've had it since the 1st year it was offered. The CSR asked me why and I told her exactly why, that charging $100 for something they offered for free last year has made me cancel the service for the principal of the matter. She tried a little to talk me out of it but didn't offer any money concessions not to cancel. I told her that I've had D* since 95 and this was the most mad I've ever been with D*.

I just saw the new tv commercial for ST in HD. Its a musical with Butkus, Sanders and Manning. Almost made me toss my cookies!! Also got the reply to my email about my auto renewal for st and was told they don't "see where" I'm set up for it, (after 3 yrs!!) and that it will cost me $20 more and $99 for superfan. I emailed back and said if you can't "see where" I qualify after 3 yrs then "see where" you can stick the renewal!!

D really is charging just for HD

I have not heard anyone talk about this so I thought I would pass this along. If it has been discussed please ignore. Thanks

I am planning on biting the bullet and keeping my ST so I was speaking to a DTV rep and they were telling me about the Superfan pack. I said yea where you can get HD right. She said not only that you get a couple extra channels like the interactive Game Mix channel. I said that sound pretty cool. I told her that I didn't have a Interactive HD receiver and she said that they don't have one yet. I asked her why this is part of the Superfan pack and they are charging a fee for this when you cant even use the interactive on your HD receiver. She gave me several different responses and she finally transferred me to the next level. They said that the Interactive game mix channel is part of the Superfan pack but it is true that they do not have an interactive HD receiver and a very good possibility that they will not have one before football season. I said so your charging me for a service I can't use and charging me again for HD even though I alrady pay for HD for the couple channels you do have. He ultimately admitted, yes. This just goes to show that the $99 charge is for HD and not for the "extras" you get along with it.
ought I would pass this along.

Please keep spearding the workd about the petition. The news media is starting to pick up on this story. There could be a lot of negative publicity for DirecTV soon if they don't do something.

I got the 99 waived

I called in to cancel D*. They sent me over to the retention team. They first wanted me to pay 49 for the superfan and I said no it was free last year it should be free this year. They came back and credited my account so I now get the superfan for free and I get to watch the games in HD!! Also they gave me all premium channels and 20 dollars off my bill for the next 6 months after I told them the deal the dish was going to give me.

You really showed them they cant get away with it huh?

These guys from D* are a bunch of brainiacs. How in the world can they justify the increase for things that we can't even view. I kind of hope that this preposed big announcement in June isn't that great so I can drop and be done with them. Having them for three years has been a big disappointment.

The media is starting to pick up on this news. I have added links to the media reports to http://www.nohdtax.com

Of course in every article they have the DirecTV spokeman saying that the $99 fee also includes the new interactive features, yet fail to mention that there is no HD receivers out there which can tune these new interactive features.

Some stats for you guys since I have not posted these in awhile...

HDTV Owners - 97.3% Own while 2.7% Do Not

76.1% of the responders planned on subscribing to the NFL Sunday Ticket before the news came out (23.9% were not)

Out of the responders 76.8% subscribed to the Sunday Ticket Package in 2004. 23.2% did not.

96.5% of the reponders said they would NOT be subscribing to the SuperFan package. (3.5% said they would still subscribe)

Out of al the responses, 88.2% said they would NOT subscibe to the 2005 Sunday Ticket Package. 11.8% will still subscribe to the package.

Why can't I cancel st over the web? I click on it and it tells me to call.
Undoubtedly part of the master plan...MUHAHAHAHA! Like a casino... make it so hard to leave that you eventually settle for their deal. :smug

As far as calling and complaining for a credit, I know that that eases the short term burden, but seriously... Eventually D* will back off the easy retention credits (all the while raising the prices of every aspect of service to offset the costs). Then where will we all be?

They can have it. I'm calling asap and cancelling -this is an outrage. I suspect in a few months D* will be compared to many cable companies. Evil as cable has been D* is along side of them now.

I agree and sometimes D* will have to take the hit. If they keep raising prices they risk both losing customers and not gaining new customers. If D* offers less or the same as cable and has the same prices customers won't switch. Customer will only switch if one of two cases are present and having both present seals the deal.

1. Content and quality - More of the quality channels people want.
2. Prices prices and prices.

If you offer both your killing the market.
