Looming video codec war!? Interesting...
Haven't heard about any such war since 2005-2007 when the creation of HD DVD showed that there are actually efficient codecs others than MPEG-2...

Beginning 2016 - when the free ride ends for royalty free usage of H-264 - might be the year when the standoff between Google and MPEG LA starts.
But unlike the VC1 vs. AVC war of the past, this one will have nothing to do with performance and everything to do with patents...:(

It's not too late to enroll in a IP law degree course...:)
