Got a PS3

Well I got a PS3 for my birthday today along with the game Ridge Racer 7 which I had seen in Walmart and said I thought looked fun. Well after some trouble getting it setup for the internet I've now gotten it so I can browse the internet. When I try to setup a PS3 network friends thing it gave me an error the first time and now tells me I need a system update but if I go to do a system update it tells me I have the latest version. I don't know how to get that working yet. So I surfed the web for a bit then decided to pop in Ridge Racer 7 and check it out. This is absolutely amazing. I'm running a Panasonic projector projecting onto 106" screen and this is beautiful on the screen. I mean stunning. The sound is also very good. With the surround sound you can hear cars coming up behind out and what not. This absolutely has stunned me and I can say I'm in love. I haven't had a game system since the N64 and original Playstation I had both of them but haven't bought one since. I have however used my computer as a gaming machine some but it's not the same. I wanted an Xbox 360 until I saw the PS3 was coming out so decided to wait for it and finally got it as a gift for my B-day. Any reccomendations as to any other good games to get? I don't like the idea of paying $60 per game so may wait until they come down although there are a few PS2 games I'd like to get to play on here. Did they ever get the issue playing PS2 games worked out? I'm hoping so as there are a few I'd like to get to play. I'm also thinking of maybe getting a Blu Ray disk to test it out and see how it looks. Thats another big reason I wanted this was for the blue ray player.

I'm sorry to hear that

You shouldn't have many problems with PS2 games.

You might want to check out gamefly or a similar service. it will let you rent games without paying $60 to buy one and finding out it stinks.

Motorstorm just came out and is a blast. Also Resistance, Fall of Man is also very good. I also like Blazing Angels, flying with the tilt controller really makes the game interesting.

Also there are some very good BD movies out right now. So you will have plenty to keep you busy.

Congrats on purchasing the best game console on the market...and the best BD player too. I too picked up Motorstorm yesterday during lunch and it's still sitting in the shrink-wrap. I played the demo and can't wait to find time to play it over the weekend.

I also saw Saw III on BD the other night...highly recommended! I guess you can say that I saw Saw Saw Saw.

Enjoy; ignore the trolls; and don't poke fun at their Wii little underpowered Boxes (where HD DVD is a $200 add on).

We signed up for the annual plan at gameznflix. My son plays the games for about a week, and that is not worth the $60 price tag, so with 6 items out at a time, gameznflix will work for us. :)

Because my wife lost the reciept for the PS3 she got me, I guess we will be keeping it.

Got to admit the opening scene is Sonic 3 looks really cool, in fact the graphics for the opening scene are some of the best I have ever seen on a video game.

I got Sonic for the kids...and the intro is as good as it gets if you ask my opinion. Give Resistance, Virtua Fighter and Motorstorm a try...;)

I downloaded the Motorstorm demo and it was really fun. I really like the where you can set it so you move the controller in the air to turn the vehicle. Anyone know if you can do this type thing with any other games? I liked the demo but not sure I liked it enough to pay $60 for it. I'd also like to get Sonic. I haven't played it or even seen much about it I just know I used to really like Sonic for the old Sega so kind of wanted it for this. Although not sure I'd pay $60 for it either. Not much out there that I want for it right now that I'd pay that much for. I might pay $20-30 for several of them but not $60. I went and bought a second controller for it today and that darn thing was $50. This is one expensive system. I still can't wait to try out the blu ray disks but I haven't gotten one of them yet. I have however downloaded some HD movie trailers and they look pretty good.

I have a question for you guys that have PS3's. Is there a way to get back to the main PS3 menu from inside a game? The menu I'm talking about is the one where you find pictures, web browser, settings, etc. The only way I can figure out how to do it is take the game out then restart without the game in.

Another question is if you rip your cd's to the hard drive on it is there anyway to listen to them during gameplay or is that impossible?

Overall I'm really enjoying this thing.

You can send it over here Scott... I'll be sure and tell the other 3 XBox's on the network not team up and beat up on the PS3.

I'm still happy with my regular XBox's... you can never get enough Halo2 multiplayer action between the 3 rooms in the house. Then again I couldn't do without my XBMC...the kids wouldn't know how to handle themselves if they couldn't pick the DVD they wanted to watch from a menu instead of having to go get the disc.

While in the game, hold down the Playstation button for a few seconds and a menu will appear.

Choose Quit Game from the menu and hit the X button.

Choose Yes and hit the X button to verify.

You will be returned to the PS3 system menu.

The Sony controller buttons are starting to squeak on my controller. The kids are fine. Is it me or the are the controllers a little whimpy? I used to play PC Games (1st person shooter, C&C/RA) a few years back and used to be quite aggressive on the keyboards and mice. I like the feel of controller, but it needs to be OJ proof (capable of being choked, twisted, thrown, and beaten). To be honest, other than squeezing it tightly and mashing the buttons down hard with my thumbs, I've actually been quite gentle with the thing.

Is it me or does anyone else have this problem? If so, is there a more durable controller on the market?

I was disappointed in the PS2 and PS3 controllers. I feel like both hands are top of each other. The same thing happens with the XBox S controller. I loved the large size old school original XBox controller, but I can't seem to find these controllers anymore. They just seemed to fit your hands just perfect. If Sony made an "L" controller that would be the bomb!

Thanks. I figured this out when playing around with it. Not sure how I discovered this but I did. I also didn't know you could turn it off from the controller until I accidentally went to that screen. I knew you could turn it on but not off. I'm liking this thing more and more each time I use it. I've been playing the F1 demo and like the demo for that a lot but not sure if I want to spend $60 on that game or not. I wish the games were cheaper.
