Hard Drive vs VIP 922

I currently have a VIP 722k, and was toying with the notion of getting a 922. I'm just not sure I want to spend the $200. I definitely need to expand my high-def storage, and was thinking about getting a hard drive. My question is: what hard drive's are people using? The dish website says that you need to hook up a hard drive with it's own power supply. Looking at a 1-TB hard drive are running around $120 and then $30 for activation, I could just get the 922. Or are there cheaper hard drives.

Okay....I get that it sounds like I'm trying to rationalize the 922 purchase. You're probably right Any thoughts welcome.

I'd appreciate that although, forgive my ignorance, but I thought it said on the dish website it worked only with a 1TB max?

Keep in mind upgrading to a 922 brings your DVR charge from $6.00 to $10.00.

Go external but remember it only will see 1TB out of the 2TB available.
