HBO Questions

Ok, finally got my HBO Now buffering problem fixed. Sad that the HBO support team couldnt provide the correct sequence for fixing the problem but was able to get it from some internet discussion

This is the solution for the HBO Now buffering problem:

1.) Sign out of and force close the HBONOW app.
2.) Delete the app from your device.
3.) Turn off your Modem, Router and TV.
4.) Wait at least 30 seconds.
5.) Restart your Modem, Router and TV.
6.) Reinstall the app.

The HBO Now support team only gave me a couple of these steps which didnt work. Not the entire sequence in this order

So, do you have the HBO app on a SmartTV? I am curious what platform necessitates this level of hoop-jumping to get it to work.

It's a brand new Sony 65Z9F 4k TV with the HBO app. I also have Netflix on this tv with no issues. My internet connection speed is 174mb

So, that is an Android TV. That is pretty weird behavior, especially on such a nice TV.

I view Smart TV apps as a last resort (or backup) for streaming regardless of brand/model.

The fundamental problem with Smart TVs is the shear number of different brands and models. This makes developing/maintaining a Smart TV app for all of them more difficult. As compared to developing/maintaining the same app for a handful of very popular streaming boxes like the Roku, Apple TV, Fire stuff, etc..

That is the only negative I've read about the Sonys.
I really like Android TV on my Sony. I've encountered two real issues, 1) the wifi antenna seems to be not as good as my Roku, 2) you need to tweak Android TV by turning off some of the unnecessary processes that rob cycles.

That said because it is Android all the major and most smaller services provide a native app.

I have always been on the edge of being a videophile and this TV blows me away on so many levels

Yeah, I am jealous. My 2015 model Sony XBR70X850B is starting to look a bit long in the tooth, but I cannot justify replacing it yet.

Here's is how to sign into hbonow with Amazon prime. It took me a minute to figure this out, hopefully this will give you a head start.

Prime Video Channels: Signing in to HBO NOW

I have a Samsung 75 inch Smart 4k TV that came with the HBO NOW app. I can also access HBO NOW through Roku and I find using the built in app preferable than going through Roku.
