Planning on getting Dish and I have 2 questions.

Firstly our local FOX network WFVX doesn't broadcast in HD. However, Time Warner Cable, broadcasts FOX programming in HD on this channels faux HD station. Does Dish do this too? I see Dish lists WFVX ch 5253 as being WFVX HD. Does it take FOX's national HD feed and broadcast over the SD signal of the local station if they're airing the same programming? I'm worried it'll just be a side bar 4:3 SD signal like TWC sometimes does when they forget to flip the switch.

Secondly NESN-HD & CSNNE-HD are must channels for me for Bruins & Revolution. Do I need to buy the $7mo sports package to get them, or are they included as locals? Also does anyone have experience with problems of them being RSNs? I know it's been addressed here and more places, but does anyone have experience with these two teams/networks specifically, I know MLS is second thought with a lot of providers.

Thanks!

The Dish subscription list shows that the Bangor, Me. Fox is in HD.
SatelliteGuys.US_TheList - DISH Network 61.5°W That's all I can tell you.:welcome

NESN and CSNNE are part of the packages, 120+ and up, and adding the sports pack does not get you major league games, they are blacked out to anyone outside the area they serve. Exception would be a if the game goes past the allotted black-out time, you might get the last inning or two.

Most games are broadcast in HD on NESN and CSNNE, more than some other RSN's. While not official yet, most of us can see that Dish is getting ready to provide at the least, all games in HD on the RSN's in the very near future.

Many answers to your questions can be found on the Dish Network website, under locals, and qualifying.

Thanks I saw that too, but what I can't figure our is the source. If you wikipedia WFVX it states it doesn't broadcast in HD. OTA it comes off of local ABC 7.2 channel. I always assumed TWC was creating it's own mash-up of HD content when it was available, does anyone know if Dish does this sort of thing too, or is it possible WFVX does broadcast in HD, but doesn't send in out OTA?

NESN and CSNNE are definitely local in my market, I was just wondering if in order to get them in HD I needed to purchase the sports package. Dish site mentions "HD" in local channels available, but in the RSNs it just mentions that station names not if they come in HD. I want to make sure they don't just count as SD locals and then make me pay for the sports pack to get them in HD.

The sports pack wont help if all you want is the LOCAL teams....

You will get NESN & CSN NE in SD.....and once in a while HD depending on if you are one of the lucky few that gets their game in HD ;)

Ok, this is about as clear as I can explain it. Forget the sports pack, it does not do anything what you think it does.
If you order a package of 120+ or higher, you will receive your RSN. In your particular instance, it will be NESN, and CSNNE. Both those are carried in HD by Dish for games, but it is not guaranteed. However, speaking only about those two RSN's, most all major league games are carried in HD as part of the package, you will get them in HD if dish carries the game in HD. Virtually every Red Sox game and every Bruins game is in HD. Celtics I would say most but not all are in HD.
I have no clue if the Revolution games are carried in HD by Dish, but I would not bet on it.

Again, it is believed Dish will soon be carrying all games in HD if they are provided in HD by the channel itself. But at this time it can be hit and miss, but as mentioned, the Boston market seems to be mostly in HD as compared to some other markets.

It is possible that TWC & E* both get a link direct from the station and not using OTA. I've worked at stations where there was a fiber line coming out of the station to providers. They may concentrate more on these lines than the OTA. They may have decided that they are better off going this way than putting in new HD converters to drive the OTA transmitter.
