I was looking to buy a extra hd stb off of e-bay and I am confused by all of the different model numbers. I have the new swm system HR24-100 HDDVR just wanted to add a extra receiver. so what's the h24-100 difference than a h24-200 or h24-500? Like I said confused!:)

It's the same receiver but just manufactured by different company's for Directv. The first letter represents if it's a regular receiver (H) or DVR (HR). The First numbers is the model number (24) and the last set of numbers represent what company manufactured the receiver. I hope this helps.

All the manufacturers build to the same specs. The only differences are appearance.

The first one or two letters on the model number tell you the type of receiver.
D = SD receiver
R = SD DVR
H = HD receiver
HR = HD DVR

I know all of the acronyms, but when I see H25-500 how do I know who makes it? 500,300,100, how do you know who makes the stb? Some posts Ive seen prefer Thompson (formerly known as RCA), or some prefer Samsung, or some prefer LG. So I gather HR24-100 is made by Thompson due to the 100,so who makes the HR24-500?

Here you go.

-100 - Thomson/Technicolor (formerly RCA)
-200 - Samsung
-250 - TiVo (no longer active)
-300 - Pace (formerly Philips)
-400 - Hughes (no longer active)
-500 - Humax
-600 - LG
-700 - Pace
-800 - NEC
