Well I set up my 7.5ft dish that I got it has been up for over 2 weeks now. The challenge I had was getting it set up to where my Homeowners Association could not send me a nasty letter telling me to take that dish down that is in MY OWN BACKYARD because it is bigger than 1 meter and not allowed. I set the dish up on a pole that is 36" above the ground and it hides pretty good behind my fence you can only see it if you are standing on my property as you walk up to the house and the nice thing is you can't see it from street level. I put a C/KU feedhorn on that I got with the dish along with the LNBs. I have been able to see any satellite that carries any Analog signal from AMC 9 to AMC 10 with a good signal quality. I subscribed to a few Analog Channels through NPS and all I can say is the picture quality and sound is awesome on C Band. And I was thinking of going for the little dish but for the price and PQ that the little dish offers it is no where near to the BUD quality. It also has been nice to watch some of the Wild FEEDS especially some of the Sports that are carried via Analog still. Now to get a 4DTV and really open up the viewing options.

Yes, they can. It isn't protected by OTARD, so unless your making your setup not visible from street level somehow makes it kosher with your HOA bylaws they could still take legal action against you.

If they tell you to take it down, you're screwed. OTARD doesnt protect it. I am in the same boat. Working on a 6 footer...have a HOA

They havent said anything...but then again with 5 dishes they usually leave me alone :)

Hey! Glad you got it going.

If needed, you can go a bit lower than that. I have my 8' dish on a 30" pole as I was trying to duck it under my fence as a courtesy to the neighbors directly behind me. The 8' dish is a whole foot shorter over-all than my 5' dish was on the old pole. If I didn't mind loosing some of my East arc, I could go even lower. Right now I can go as far East as W6 (72W) and the dish is inches from the ground at that point.

Judging by your pics you aren't getting that far East anyways so you can REALLY get away with a shorter pole if needed.

So long as no one complains, you should be fine. Another 6" and I bet it's invisible :).

I have not gotten a notice yet from the HOA and if I do I can go 6" lower on the pole with no problem. As of now it is not visible from the street so I don't think I will have a problem with them. It has been almost 3 weeks since I put the dish on the pole.

It's good to know that your current neighbors are reasonable people. However, unless you get explicit written approval from the HOA, it's possible you will be forced to remove it at some point.

The old fogies from up north are trying to get a HOA here. They asked me to sign a petition. I politely declined, as did nearly half the neighborhood. So then, they wanted to incorporate as a town. I'm not supporting that either. If they push it, I will go to the GMs of the casinos and apartment complexes and see if they are for it. If not, I think 11 casinos on my side will be a big help.

I think the town thing has something to do with them not being able to enforce HOA rules on those of us who will not join. If I wanted to live in a town, I would not have bought a house in the middle of a subdivision in the middle of a cotton field.

My take:

This is America. Its my house on my lot, I paid for it, so piss off.

In what I thought was a hillarious decision, they started the first meeting about the HOA with a grand old bitch session. About a car and a basketball goal. You know, I just wish my life was so perfect that by biggest gripe was that my neighbors had a basketball goal.

Heh...time to stick a pink flamingo to the end of the feedhorn cover, just for fun :)

Yes , & something to do with the mail box & burned out porch light bulb ? . Course , the basket ball goal was what got them started & having to be finished with the moving van by dark ?

I hated to see that show dwindle . The end was not up to the standards that the preceding years had set .

I would have watched it if they continued the show with the two new agents , Dogget (sp) and Reyes (sp) .

Passive agressive stuff

I had issues dealing with township busybody patrols (they actually have a guy on payroll).

Two weeks of email just to get them to understand that FCC trumps TWP (township) rules regarding 1 meter dishes.

I can go up to 8 feet, stay 6 feet from boundary, yada yada yada, you have to submit your plan and pay a $25 fee. Maybe your HOA has one of those loopholes, or others?

They bent pretty well after email tag number ten. I was also asking them about how many decoy geese I could put out in one spread on my in town front yard. If some people can put up concrete geese with no objections then I feel I have a right to display my interests.

Your HOA got issues with goose decoy spreads? Play a little "Let's make a deal" with them. I get my dish and the plastic geese stay in the garage.

A friend had a problem with a really stiff HOA. He has a DN dish in his Backyard (on a small mast)and they gave him grief about covering it up (?&^$#$)

Well, he got one of those fake rocks and then put the dish on the side of his house with the fake rock over it...LOOKS LIKE A BIG PIMPLE AND THE HOA GUYS ARE PISSED!:D

As I have mentioned in this Forum before I put up an 8 ft BUD 40 feet in the air over the peak of a 2 story house that was in a subdivision here. The owner answered the HOA's first letter with a reply that it was HIS PROPERTY and if THEY wanted the dish down They would have to trespass onto HIS property to remove it themselves and he would defend HIS PROPERTY against ALL trespassers. They sent him another letter but he ignored it and the issue just went away BUT the dish is STILL THERE and that has been over 5 years.

Guys, maybe I am missing something here, but what the hell are these Home Owners Associations you keep talking about. It is my property and I am going to do what I want as long as it's within the zoning ordinances. In Indiana, zoning ordinances are made by the city/county councils, not a bunch of neighbors sticking their noses in someone else's business. If one of the HOAs tell you they don't like your dish, take it down so you tell them you don't like their brats swing set, take it down or you don't like the color of their house, repaint it. My brother in law bought a piece of land to build a house on, the HOA told him if he built on the north side of the street it had to be sided, if he built on the south side it had to be brick. That is the biggest crock of sh*t I have ever heard. We are going to be moving sometime this summer to Shelbyville and ole BUD is going with me come hell or high water. I told the wife that I didn't care what kind of house we buy as long as it's out in the country so I can do what I want. You want a dish, put it up.
