$999 +tax for 9ft Radio-shack & everything to get started. The re-branded Uniden receiver was re-capped which bought a couple more years but been through 5-6 receivers. The dish and original motor are still going.

1984 stardish 12' with a luxor 9550 stereo receiver and actuator fully remote
controlled. I installed it with some help getting it up about 9' so I could grass under it. cost included all the feedhorn and lnb.....$3875. just took it down for scrap. What the hurricanes didn't tear up, mother nature did.

1998: $75 for a 7.5 ft fiberglass dish and pole, LNA, block downconverter, GI SRX205bb receiver, VC2100e decoder box, dish mover controller (regionally made, modified for power/display control), Warner 18" jack, and typical Chapparal C-band feedhorn with Polarotor motor. I paid I think $30 for the 100 ft of RG 6 I needed new, and had the other wiring for free from a scrap dealer I was working at at the time.

In the early 80's we built our first dish from a wood frame and 1/4" hardware cloth. One very expensive receiver and LNA . To change polarities someone had to manually turn the LNA 90*
This was NO fun at 30* below zero. I don't even want to know how much $ I have into TV during my life time.

1990 or there abouts I spent around $2500 for a 12' Orbitron, Ajak HH mount, Vertical lift attachment with a Vonwise 18" actuator for tracking inclined satellites. Uniden UTS-4500 Supra, VCII RS descrambler, ADL feed horn and polarizer with whatever the top of the line C and KU band lnbs were. 200' of ribbon cable. Unlike todays products, the only thing I have replaced was a KU lnb, The rest still works. I have moved two times and brought it with me. I even dug up the ribbon cable and brought it too.:D
