I haven't been happy with the performance with this machine for a long time and today it upped and decided to have a power supply die on it (won't power whatsoever). I have been teetering on leaving for cable in fact as they are cheaper in my area. They are not likely as good of a picture I imagine which is very important to me which is why I have stayed. What is a likely replacement going to be from Direct? I have been shelling out the 5.99 a month for something I guess. Has anyone been in this predicament recently?

Just curious.

You will get whatever they send you, generally speaking. If you tell them you need the ota tuner, then you will likely get another HR20. If you order the HMC, then you will get the HR34, but you will have to pony up more money for it. The only other way to get what you want is to get it online from solid signal or some other vendor. Make sure if Directv replaces it for you that you don't get a commitment extension.

Not always. You can have an installer do it for you. If you have the protection plan it's free.

I would suggest going this route. You're more likely to get a newer box and they'll make sure the connections are good and the dish is peaked in

An HR34 would get you a new two year commitment.

So you call the local installer for Tech support? When you know it will need replacement? I already called and they are already shipping the replacement unit of unknown model.

I would instantly quit if they tried to give me an HR22 or below which I have heard happening. HR 23 I am still thinking about walking out on. That was a piece of crap slow as Christmas.

Hoping for HR24 I guess since the new one would require the commitment.

No, you call Directv. If you want/need a tech, they schedule the appointment.
