I'm in Houston, expecting Rita to hit tonight. I've not seen anything about the wind effects on these dishes, but it can't be good. I'm thinking that I should take it down until after the storm.

I have read before that they can withstand hurricane force winds but I don't know what cat hurricane.

Leave the dish alone...I was hit by Katrina when it was a cat 1...knocked it
out of alignment...D* arranged for a free service call, which resulted in a new
dish install...cost zero dollars for me as I was in a hurricane affected area,
however they added in error a 2 yr. programming commitment, which I assume
was for the free call, but they reversed the charge without any basis for it, as they advertised no charge restoration. I assume they will do the same for
"Rita" ??

Mine survived three storms last year without any movement - great installer, I guess. Only lost signal when I lost power - three times. But once I had my generator running, it worked great.

Anyway, good luck with Rita. Looks like it is weakening and is down to Cat 3. Still strong but not what it was before.
