I doubt NY or LA puts out a worse HD product OTA than Green Bay or Madison.

You'd be amazed at what topography does for whether a DMA is "worse" or not.

I'm in the NY DMA, albeit at the fringe of it, and I can't get a lick of any of the major networks OTA. We're talking 60 miles through trees, hills, skycrapers, etc. Also not helpful that the OTA signals tend to center around being E-W, and I'm more NE.

A squarish, smaller DMA is best. Anything where the signal can be concentrated. NY (and I would think LA as well) doesn't come close to this.

Agreed

I get more HD off OTA in the Madison Area than I would get with Cable. Also given the cost to get Local HD OTA (free) vs Cable (as a D* Sub) and given the fact the signal from OTA is far superior to Cable with no Digital out on their Moxie box, Charter, it makes no sense for a person to sub to D* and not go OTA. Now some markets I am sure the local Cable CO. could offer a better solution than I have here, but how many offer a signal comparable to the OTA in heir area? I would guess no the majority, though I would stand corrected if someone had info on this. Also if they are switching the largest DMA's first to HDLiL, wouldn't those markets be the most likely to offer the best OTA HD as the resources to produce said product would be the more available? I doubt NY or LA puts out a worse HD product OTA than Green Bay or Madison.

So if it is Free and a better signal quality using OTA why should D* try and compete with the OTA offering? And if a person is going to have a HD TV and HD tuner/HDTivo and most likely be somewhat affluent, why would they not spend under $50 in most cases to get OTA reception ? It goes against common reasoning. Now I get some think Antennas are ugly. But if D* wanted to be the king of the hill in HD and offer something for the entire family, which matters in my house just ask my wife (o:, why not offer the channles Dish does. You offer that coupled with the ST and the Sports packages already in place and you have an unquestioned market leader which appeals to every demo.

Your missing the boat, your the minority of customers who do that. On top of that we HD people are the minority of viewers. Satisfy the masses and fill in after (2007).

It's getting hard to purchase a primary set without an HD input. Can't assume everyone that has an HD set is willing or technically inclined to set up an OTA, on top of that getting all of the OTA channels in their area. I live within 15 miles of a major metro area and so happens I can only get 1 digital OTA signal. Thanks for HD LIL's D*:up The Colts\Rams preseason game looked great last night.

I'm only to assume there are more viewers of the Big 4 (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX) than there are of FOOD-HD, HGTV-HD.... you get the point.

The fact is Even if you get HD-LIL from D*, you STILL have to have an antenna to get all of the HD locals anyway since D* doesn't carry all of them, only the big3 or 4. I would still have to have an antenna to get my favorite programming from my local PBS-HD station.

So if you have to have an antenna anyway to get the missing locals how does satellite help you? If providing HD-LIL was a good business plan then they should have put more resources into it and done the job right instead of half-way.

Either way, D* management looks befuddled and indecisive.

Ah. Now even though I agree with D* management that you get the most bang for your buck with HD LIL for the top 4 networks, delivery has been spotty and slow (despite folks saying they are right on plan). I think this group has ideas and plans but I dont think its the best at delivering them. Its taken along time to get the MPEG4 locals out there and quality and completeness is very suspect. The Boston CBS HD looks terrible. The other 3 are looking much better today but not when I first saw them. Yuck.

NESN HD has frame rate issues. Motion looks downright weird. And the MPEG4 DVR didnt coincide with the launch of MPEG4 channels. And yes I think PBS should have been part of the HD LIL spotbeams.

So I agree with some feedback from folks about this management group but I still think D*'s decision to go after HD LIL in the top markets is the best HD strategy right now.

No I'm not changing jack! D* needs to get off their sorry ass(ets) & make me happy. We have waited long enough. Actually more than long enough. Let me ask you upnorth, Your solution to things you don't like is for you to simply go away?

I will give you the OTA problems, in some markets, but can't the new ones handle 500 channels of output on each sat? in mpeg4?

and bring on INHD

Don't think we'll see it anytime soon, I'll play the pessimistic role and if the moons align and D* brings it on before 07. I'll be pleasently surprised.

So in other words what us HD subscribers want we should get. I would like that to I would like to see INHD also but we are a small percentage of there subscribers and it will take time.
So bashing D* on these forums is going to help? I dought it but go ahead any way if it makes you feel better.:up

If anyone of any substance from Direct TV happens to read this I hope you are truly embarrassed by the fact Dish is kicking ass re: HD. I hope someone gets fired for the "leader in HD" commercial. INHD on Dish? National Geo in HD and also Food NEtwork in HD soon too. Plus Vooms channels. What the hell is the problem here??? I don;'t wanna hear "we don't have anymore bandwith...blah blah blah.." Turn off some off the new crap you added for your Spanish or Pacific clients and give the masses who have spent $1000's on your HD equipment some freaking channels. Spot beam in nationals in Mpeg4 to the people you can and who have mpeg 4 receivers, swap out the people who don't have them yet and get something done. Waiting till 2007 (late 07' I would bet and that is not a given) is ridiculous. I wish I could get a D* Exec in my living room and slap their damn face. You suck!

I have re-upped for 2 years because I like D* overall but the way this has been planned and handled should cost jobs and if they don't care about Sub w/HD tell us. Then let me out of my 2 year commit so I can go to Dish and enjoy more channels.

ok so who sent D* my post and got my HD turned off lol. Went on the blink this am and can't be fixed until the 23rd. :( Every channel works fine except the HD 70 - 79...curiously 80 works for me.

Somebody up there got even
