Sounds like you have no MS , the wires go from the LNB to a ground block and then into the rec's.

If you only have 1 rec set up then you have no need for a MS.

Just curious, go out and check to see if your connections at your ground block are tight as well as behind the rec.
Did the installer run NEW runs or use existing runs ?

Jimbo

Yup everything is tight from block back towards the receiver .. he used one existing run and created a new one ... however "searching" errors are happening on both tuner one and tuner two ... the existing run was installed around two years ago for my Dish setup ... has always been solid ... I'm sure he will start from the receiver and work his way up when he gets here - i hope he does not just replace one of the connections on the receiver and tell me to cal again i it goes bad ... hopefully it'll go out again before he gets here :)

Tech just came out - everything was working perfectly of course when he got here ...
He changed out the black boxes at the back of the receiver .. but said it was unlikely to be the cause because both of my lines appeared to have the error .. he visually inspected the cable runs and said all of that looked just fine ... and he went back up to the dish and switched out the LNB .... said it would be very unusual to get two bad LNB's back to back .... said that pretty much covered everything that he could do himself without seeing the error in progress .. and said the only other thing it could be would be the receiver .. but to call them if/when it happened again.

Hopefully he covered what it could have been ... time will tell .... :fingers crossed:

24 hours perfect reception so far - the longest its been without "searching for signal" since install ... fingers crossed - looks like they "fixed" it.

Hopefully you wont have any problems, however if it does go out again, I would get them to replace the Receiver. This happens from time to time, with both companies. Good luck!

By the way, what are you thoughts on the HR compared to the ViP now that you have had time to play around with it? Still not a huge difference? My thinking is people are just get familiar with a box, and dont like the other "just because"

I think i actually prefer it.

The hardware features are obviously not as strong (TV2 Output - OTA tuner - Record three shows at a time)

To be honest those are not real issues for us personally.

But features and software and navigability i personally think that the HR series has the edge by a long long way.

My wife - who is notoriously bad tempered when she has to change the way she does anything .. actually prefers the HR series already ... only took her a couple of days to get used to the look and feel of the menu's etc... and let's face it - if the wife is happy - I'm happy ;)

Menu's are much easier to read and easier to navigate IMHO, on-demand content is awesome - media player setup is great for us as i have a LOT of content on my main pc that i was using media players for ... am now able to use the HR-21. The more i use it the more hidden gems I find with the setup that I had no idea were there. (Jump to a date/time in schedule is great - especially if you see a show advertised that you want to record) - Bing able to change the video in the box while still reading the guide without coming out of the guide is a great feature too.

The whole setup just "feels" much more professional ... like you have actually got a team of guys who knows what they are doing working on this stuff ... rather than a bunch of kids who are probably on minimum wage using the time at work to surf for porn and just knocking out minimum spec equipment.

Whole setup hardware wise from dish to receiver seems to be more "solid"

I can see where the OTA - TV2 - 3 show ability would be dealbreakers for some people .. for us it wasnt and were very glad we made the switch.

:)

This is making me feel alot more confident that my switch to D* on Saturday is the right move for us. I can't wait to play with the system. :up

..and most DirecTV users still likely would not prefer the TV2 Output as it suffers from a severe lack of quality compared to expectation.

OTA tuners modules for users that want it on those unit that were not built-in; is already on the way.

Record three shows at a time; I record A LOT, and have never run into needing this; may I one day, sure, but I have not yet.

The replaced LNB set up may very well be the problem and it may be fixed for a good long time.
I had an intermittant problem with my HD channels, only a few of them if I recall correctly and he ended up changing the dish out , from the old 5 lnb (AT-9, sidecar) to the new (AU-9 Slimline) and I have had NO issues since and that has been probably 6-8 months now, also been thru ALL kinds of weather with NO signal loss.

Wow, this kind of thread can happen.

Sub with a problem, Sub not moaning and groaning, demanding restitution and free college for his kids because the provider ripped him off, provider/installer working to rectify the problem and then does.

Very informative, and shows what a little patience and civility can accomplish.

Thanks for the thread, and Congratulations on your new setup and Enjoy!
