Looking for some advice. Installed a new 5 lnb dish - I've got good signal on 101, 99c, 103ca and 103cb. 99s and 103s some transponders are OK, but others are low. Nothing on 110 or 119

At any rate I seem to get all channels just fine for a little while - after 10 minutes or so, I start getting pixelation and fading. The goofy thing is that all I have to do is go to the signal meter for a minute or two - I let it tell me the strength of a couple of transponders and it still shows everything in the high 90s.

I then close the signal meter and go back to watch tv and the channels are perfect again - for about 10 minutes.

Makes no sense to me.

Any ideas what would be causing this and why in the world running a signal meter test makes everything work again?

Is your mast perfectly plumb and level? Is your tilt set correctly? How many receivers? Several questions. SWM?

:welcome to Satelliteguys!

Can you post all of your signal levels on all of the satellites? The numbers on 99s and 103s will have many low numbers or zeros since they are spot beams and most of them aren't pointed in your direction. Like Hutch1814 mentioned, double check all of your settings on the dish and the mast must be plumb or you will have a very difficult time getting the dish aligned.

I did some adjusting and got the 119 and 110 now. Pretty good numbers now on all:

95 95 94 95 94 95

Still doing the same thing. Works fine right after set-up - about 10 minutes, signal is distorted. Simply go to the signal meter - and then everything works fine for another 10 minutes.

Thanks.

Well, your signal STRENGTH is not the issue, your numbers are very good.

Wondering about your set up and what it is ?

Recvrs, Dish set up, SWM or not.
You've obviously got a 5 LNB set up, it's a SLIMLINE, but SWM or not we don't know and what recvrs are hooked up to it ?

I'm leaning towards a bad LNB, but without knowing if you are a SWM sub, it's hard to guess.

The SWM adds a lot more variables.

I'm thinking you are right Jimbo, it's a bad lnb. Just a guess on my part. If it was cabling or a connector, it wouldn't be consistently failing, it would more likely be constantly.

Slimline Multi-satellite dish with integrated Ka/Ku LNB's & built in multi-switch

slimlinephoto4.jpgslimlinephoto2.JPGslimlinephoto.JPGI have an opportunity buy a HR24-200 to replace my D12 non-hd receiver but don't know if it will work with my current slimline dish.
Can one of you experts advise me on this?

Yes, your HR24 will work with a Slimline dish. Depending upon your setup you may need other equipment. Do you have a SWiM lnb or regular? How many other dvrs/receivers do you have?

No other receivers or DVR at the cabin other my D1, two coax cables coming off the dish with a regular lnb

Does the dish say Slimline on it?

Never mind! I just saw the picture you added. You should be able to simply exchange the D12 for the HR24. Both cables from the dish must be connected for both tuners in the dvr to work.

Most directv dish photos I've seen while researching this normaly show 3 LNBs, is this single LNB going to give me good HD quality?

Yes, this is a newer SlimLine with 3 SAT capability housed in an all-in-one LNB array; 99, 101, 103. It is perfectly fine.

One last question..... In satellite setup on my current receiver, the dish configuration is set to 04:Slimline 5, will that be the correct setting on the HR24 as well?

IF this Slimline is a SL5, your fine ...

How many Sats are you recving, 3. 99, 101 and 103, or are you currently seeing the 110 and 119 as well.

If your not seeing the 110 and 119 (which is what I'm guessing) you'll want to change the setting to Slimline 3
