Fox's Deputy COO particularly likes the fact that Dish Network agreed to disable the ad-zapping function in its Hopper DVRs for the first three days after it records an ABC show. "Protecting certain windows is important" — especially the three-day period that's most important for TV ad sales — James Murdoch told the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference today.

It's nice to finally see some agreement here. I myself think it's a fair deal to push back the auotohop feature 3 days. I would think a lot of people don't watch their recorded programs until after 3 days anyway.

Yeah, we can't let advertisers think for a second that their ads are not actually being watched...

I often will wait 3 days before watching PTAT shows. I work in a small office where no one discusses TV programs anyway. I can always watch (and 30 sec skip) programs on channels w/o autohop availability. :D

Sounds like someone is ready to bargain with Dish.

If the ability to skip commercials went away, I simply wouldn't watch. I'll watch the ones I want, not all the garbage they shovel out.

I would have to agree. I would stop all DVR TV watching if I could not skip commercials. I would just buy the few shows I would want to watch... What do do with all the free time?

Libraries still exist?

Of course given my current physical shape, time would probably be better spent at the gym...

So the consensus seems to be forming that the only benefit for 1-day autohop is for the next day water cooler discussion crowd?

First it will be 3 days, then 5, then 7. You got to start somewhere. Tivo already started ads into their DVR functionality. I am shocked that Dish hasn't done the same.
