Jeter gets his 3,000th hit on a HR

Even more interesting is that only two people got their 3000th hit via a HR and both were not HR hitters, Boggs and Jeter. Boggs did it with the Rays and Jeter did it against the Rays.

It's hard to believe that with all the greats that franchise has had that Jeter is the first player to get his 3000th hit in a Yankee uniform.

I was surprised when I heard that myself

Jeter needs a triple to hit for the cycle. I don't think anyone else has done that on the day they got to 3000.

Very nice to see him do it now and be done with it. Jeter is a lovable person. 1995 since to be only yesterday when he came up through the minors.

That's it? I would hope there would be a little more involved with it being #3000 AT Yankee Stadium AND it being a homer AND being one of the most loved Yankees of all time.

But congrats to Jeter!

He also got two front row seats for tomorrows game, several Jeter signed balls, bats, and jerseys.

Jeter's 3000th hit brought back memories of Roberto Clemente's. I was researching it and found an interesting article in the NYT. Things were different in those days, that's for sure.

The greatest latin ball player to ever play. His LAST hit was his 3000 hit. My Idol.... and the most misunderstood player in baseball during his time.

EDIT: GREAT story and it brought up some emotion about THE pride of my small island of Puerto Rico. There have been many GREAT latin players in the history of this game, but none like him. To this day, I miss him and due to the small talent now coming out of Puerto Rico to the Majors, Puerto Rico misses him MORE!
