40 miles NW of Omaha. Omaha?
Just wanted to share some pix of our flood. Not related to FTA, but still neat to chat about, thought you would like to see it.

Were you on high ground? As someone who has had his house flooded and lost very expensive belongings (Katrina), I can relate to flood damage :( ...

Scope..
What is meant by our flood? Just in the community? Or, affecting your family?

Community and my family both. My brother, sister, uncle and I all got it. This 2010 flood was one of the worst ever recorded (actually it was the worst for some towns). It affected about 200 miles of the river, at least.

Cities/towns affected were Ewing, Neligh, Norfolk, Pilger, Oakland, West Point, Beemer, Snyder, Scribner, Hooper, Winslow, Nickerson, Arlington, and Waterloo. Then, after the Elkhorn River dumps into the Platte River and then into the Missouri River, they got flooded down their way, too.

No one in my family lost anything of any value. We had advanced warning and moved all of our stuff out and to higher ground before the really deep stuff came.

I have a house on top of the bluff by the river. Many people broght their things up to my place for safe keeping during the flood. The water has mostly receded now, and we are all working to clean up the damages. Mostly that sticky, stinky river mud.

I got trapped behind the flood waters one day. I tried to make it out with my ATV four-wheeler, but it was too deep and it ended up floating on me!

We turned around and went back to the cabins and drank beer, grilled steaks and took pictures and laughed. There wasn't much else we could do.

Some folks here were not as lucky. They had four to six feet of water in their homes/cabins. Obviously, the really bad after-effect is the mosquitos. They are horrible now. If you are familiar with the movie, The African Queen, there is a scene in there that shows how bad the skeeters are here, now, and they are just gettig started. Look for my recipe for homemade insect repellent in one of the other forums here (can't remember where it is - chit chat club I think). It WORKS!

damn thats a lot of water....we had flooding here this spring but luckily the Minnesota river can't get that high to damage houses...just flood the roads out

Radar, thanks for the account of what happened.

Sorry to hear about the problems.

Glad it didn't turn out worse.

Glad they had time to get their valuables to safety!

We really lucked out well this time. It could have been much worse.

We are resilient, though. We get right back out there and start rebuilding and cleaning as soon as we can. We are rednecks, you know! :)

If you can talk my brother into it, I think he might send you an audio/video production that you will appreciate. He'll have to mail it to you as it won't condense down well for emailing. You'll like it, though. Ask Walrus1957 if you are interested.
