Getting the wife a kindle fire Hdx for Christmas.

Amazons special offers are basically advertisements. Is it better to opt out of this upfront?

Curious as to what others are doing. Thoughts & opinions appreciated.

My kindle was the cheaper "special offers" model. As far as I'm concerned the adds aren't a big deal. They only show on the lock screen and everything is the same while you are actually using it. My sister has an older kindle and paid extra for the version without adds. Hers shows the covers of classic books instead of adds. Sure that's nicer to look at but I wouldn't pay extra for it.

With the older Kindle e-readers you could pay a fee to remove the special offers later. I expect the Kindle Fire's allow that as well if you decide you don't want them.

Edit: The fee is $15

Thanks everyone, believe I will opt for the special offers and save money.
